i took a glance at it today because i have an oil pressure guage i want to put in and it looks like a regular wrench would be way too long. i found the write up when i searched and he said he used a 26mm wrench, but theres no way it fit, it looks like it would be way too long to move.so what did you guys use? also ive heard that you can take the battery and washer fluid container out and its easier to get to that way, has anyone tried it? TIA

The easiest way to remove it, is to use a special socket made for the sending unit. If i remember correctly, it's a 1 1/16" socket. Can find it at most auto parts stores..

with the crossmember and oilpan removed, i got it out with a regular open-ended wrench. getting it back in though was entirely different... make sure you have the right tool.

definetly 1 1/16" deep socket, don't remember how exactly it went back on though

Or, if you are lazy like me and don't feel like buying the socket, vice grips.

Or if your garage is a fucking mess, like mine, and you can't find the spiffy socket, big f'n channel locks.

what do you use to get the oil sending unit that came with the autometer guage in then? it doesnt seem like it would have to be more than hand tightened with some thread tape...maybe im an idiot.did you guys use just the new sending unit or use npt fittings and use both so the oil light would come on?

Use a street tee, and you can use both, still. Just make sure that you remote mount the autometer oil pressure sender. If you don't, you run the risk of premature failure, or worse. Worse, by the way, would be the tee breaking off, spewing a lot of oil in a little time.

So yeah, a little stainless braided hose goes a long way.

i used vice grips, took a bit to get it off, but they work wonders

be real careful using vice grips or cresent wrenches, I used one to try to put my girlfriends sending unit back on and ended up braking the plastic case off. 80$ for a damn new one.

ALSO a 1 & 1/16th inch deep socket(the one I had was a 12pt, a 6pt would probably work better) works to get it on but the trouble I had was that the socket couldnt hold the sending unit and would just turn around it and not tighten it -- to fix this I took some small drill bits and taped them inside the channels in the socket. It worked. the 1" socket is too small.

that 26 mm box wrench? yea cut it in half and it will fit and take it right off. yes i bought a new wrench and cut it in half.
