Hey guys im trying to get my girlfriends 95 eclipse GS (was turbo but the turbo setup has been removed) running right. Here are the problems/description of what happens:

Car runs GREAT most of the time, lots of power.. It has 1 missing fuel rail bolt which I have a replacement for and I am going to put it in real soon. Anyway after 20 min of driving the fuel trims get jacked up to 20+ percent and the o2 voltage seems to stay very very low, but the car still runs fine, I assume this is because I dont have the second bolt holding the fuel rail down, It doesnt seem to leak tho (cant smell any gas). Any comments on this?

Now with what happened last night, car was running great, I drove it pretty hard for a few minutes, then we parked it to chat with one of my buddys. We get in it to leave my GF is driving (real easy on the car) and all of a sudden the CE light comes on(after maybe a half mile) and the car starts running really bad (missing I think), we baby it home, I scanned the code right when it popped up and it was P0352 ignition coil b primary/secondary circuit, I looked it up in the book. Anyway what can I do to test it?? I have a feeling it has something to do with wiring (maybe its getting to hot because of the EGR return pipe getting hot -see below) but im not sure.

Another thing that could be causing this is that the EGR recirculation tube gets REALLY hot, hot enough to melt wires, now on my 96 ESI I actually have the engine wiring harness sitting on the EGR return pipe with no troubles.. I've read on this site I can simply pull the vacuum hose off of it and the pipe wont get hot? Is this right? I also plan to pick up some heat wrap to wrap the EGR pipe with.

Please any information regarding these issues would be great, I really want to get the car sturdy enough for her to drive alone and further then 2-3 miles away and at this point I can't.

I figured it out :)

Still uncertain about the recirc tube getting real hot but i pulled the hose off of it.

The previous owner must have had a 5" tach or something because their was a wire tapped into one of the wires for the coil harness, this got belted by the EGR tube and grounded onto it, screwing with the signal.

If the egr opens the pipe gets hot. Mabye it's not opening on your 96. :shrug

thanks for the responce, if it doesnt open wouldnt i get a CE light on my 96?

I pulled the vacuum hose on hers and it now has a CE light...does the pipe really get THAT hot?

No offense or anything, but if you leave the engine wiring harness sitting on the egr pipe, you're making a fucking mistake. it *WILL* melt the harness and it *WILL* cause you a world of hurt. it recirculates HOT EXHAUST GAS, so yeah, it's gonna get almost exhaust manifold hot. Fix that, get it off the pipe, ASAP!

Ever since I rebuilt the head on my 96 I didnt even realize what the pipe was and just left the wiring harness on it. I've been driving the car for 3 or 4 months now and I checked the harness the other day and their is no indication on the wiring that its getting hot. I just got a new pack of zip ties tho, I'll move it off the pipe today :)
