I was driving today to the UPS store and it was a monsoon outside and I went through a puddle really fast...I have CAI and my call sputtered a little bit but never quit...reved it up just fine and drove it back home no worries. I even did a little research and took out some spark plugs and cranked it no water...

What else should I do to be safe???

you can buy my bypass valve for your intake so you don't have to worry in the future

if your car didnt stall than your fine you just ran through a puddle we all do it, as for what to do, theres really nothing to worry about. just dont go in anymore puddles. and if your gonna go cai than definatly get the bypass valve from the member offering.

I would buy a bypass valve but I am going turbo within the next week or so.

So I did the next best thing and went to a short ram setup

Just put the stock intake back on if you are going to be doing a turbo install soon. It's not like those CAI really do that much anyway.

Heres some advice i heard once. If you find yourself going over an unavoidable puddle, turn off the car and cruise over it. And when it's safe, turn it back on. Just dont give the cars behind you a scare.

From someone who'se hydrolocked their engine- If its raining and you have a CAI, you have two choices.

1) Don't drive. Park the car and/or walk home in the rain.
2) Remove your CAI and put the stock intake back on. Takes 2 minutes.

Driving in rain with a CAI is really, really stupid.

I really think the only thing that saved my ass was that the vent hose was disconnected from the CAI and there is a hole in the piping itself that the battery tray wore in it (cheap ass thing). So I guess when I went through the puddle it didnt suck any water in just bogged it down...Kind of the same priciple as trying to drink water through a straw with holes in the side.

^^^ that's actually a lot easier than swapping the intake. just pull off the hose going to the intake from the valve cover. that should be more than enough to keep any serious amount of water from being sucked up. the past couple times when it was pouring hear i just took off the lower half of my CAI. the crappy part was that the filter couldn't fit on the upper half so i cut up my shirt and clamped that on the end. :P

but yea i think next time i'll try just pulling the hose :)

and btw you don't gotta shut off your car when crusing through a puddle just let off the throttle COMPLETELY. think about it. throttle plate is closed. the only air getting into the engine is coming in through the IAC. if the IAC is submerged you've got a lot more to worry about then just hydrolock. plus with the engine on you still have you power steering/brakes etc.
