91663, Head Gasket questions Posted by micyek, Jul-20-05 04:43 AM
I'm assembling the head on my 2.4 and I noticed a couple of things that make me nervous.
One...the oil and water galley holes in the new MLS HG are much more restricted...they are not much more than a BB sized hole were the triangler shaped holes were on the old HG. The shape/hole is ther on the outer most layers but not in the inner layer(s). Is that normal?
Also the 2.0 block has an o-ring type seal on the drivers side back part of the block I believe, and the 2.4 block doesn't have the groove for it...so I'm assuming that I don't need to worry about that little guy. If some one could confirm that I would apreciate it....TIA!
Oh one more thing...when I was lossening the head bolts I had to use a 1/2 breaker bar and about an adtional 18" of pipe to break those fuckers loose. And it still took a lot of effort to do it...IMO waaaaay over spec...any thoughts?

From what I remember my MLS head gasket was the same way. I not sure what your talking about as far as the o-ring grove. Are you talking about where a lineup pin goes in the block for the head to line up with? For the head bolts being tight, that sound about normal to me.

it's not really an o-ring...more of a hard platic...it's been a couple of days since I looked at it..but from what I remember it goes round 2 oil galleys. One hole is bigger that the other so it's kinda tear drop shaped probably about 3/4 of an inch long.
thanx for you input man!
