Well Im still having the ticking/diesel sound comin out of the valve cover after replacing lifters and rollers. What do I try next, springs, valves, retainers?

Has anybody else had or has this prob?

Like I said before, its the loudest at idle and seems to get quiter under load.

Mine ticks.... it's lifter tick and is normal to the extent of my knowledge... atleast MINE is lifter tick, i dont know exactly what yours sounds like.

If your rebuilt then it is probably like what ^^^ said and could be piston slap. However, i heard piston slap had more of a diesel sound to it. I could be totally off base here LOL

i just droped new ford #30s in my talon and the ticking went away, so im guessing that the injectors can tick pretty loud, as my "tick" went away

Well I read a bunch of your threads on piston slap and reading how you guys described it, thats what I have. I have the deisel sounding motor. Its coming from the top of the motor. They are forged JE's with Eagle rods.

Now, I only have more question that my father n law struck up. The motor def has more than 5k miles on it and before 3 weeks ago it did tick, faintly. 3 weeks ago when I was butt tuning with the MS and boosting pretty hard through all the gears, is when it got louder.

So, can piston slap actually get louder through time and if so will it keep getting louder?

God this is a really annoying sound, lol.

mine is pretty loud at idle when its cold but when its hott you can barely hear it. and i cant hear while boosting hard on 14psi now.

next solution, maybe your 'ticking' gets louder through harder pulls in boost maybe cuz of detonation?

NOW you can search for my other thread of 'detonation sounds' and listen to the clip that wickedesi posted. see if thats what it sounds like, lol.

Actually, I dont evem here it when Im boosting. Only time I hear it, is when Im at idle and under load till about 3k.

If it's piston slap, it should go away once the engine warms up (runs for a few minutes)

Check your rod bearings, they are very easy to check, you know, remove oil pan, get a 12 point 13mm? and pull the cap off, they should be shiny. If you spun one of them, it's better to find out sooner rather than later, although a spun rod bearing will get louder as RPM's increace, but can sometimes be difficult to hear over exhaust and engine noise.

im tellin you to at least try the injectors, put the stock ones in just to see if it changes, your problem sounds just like mine did, i put the #30 injectors in and it stoped

Well Im am using the 4G63 450's and there almost maxed out. Lemm e try this see what happpens.

What injectors did you have in?

check your oil pressure, mine ticks a little bit at idle and then when i give it some gas the oil pressure shoots up and the tick goes away

i was running stockers then i maxed them out i guess and now i got for 30# in ther

So I have some more thoughts about this and I dont want to start a new thread.
Is it possible that the ticking sound could come from the water pump?

You see, I remember before I was boosted and running on stock injectors, it ticked then. Not as loud as it does now, but it did tick.

Now Im not totally convinced its not piston slap. It is really loud when I start up the car and when it gets warmer it does quite down a little, but I believe its too loud to be piston slap after warm up. You should here it when I go down an alley with houses on both sides, good god.

Do you think I might be able to pinpoint the prob a little better with a stethoscope?

Keep in mind, I did replace the lifters and the rollers and no difference.

stethoscope would probably be a good idea
