91538, installed manifold (corbin) spacer today

First lets just say it was hotter then hell today! I got the bitch on though (Thanks DJ for the hookup on this used little wonder!). I can't tell yet if it makes all that much difference since I do have a p&p mani and due to the temps today. I will keep you posted though. Did fit up nice. Great job on this old skool item corbin!

Yeah, its been awhile. I got it from you right after I put on my p&p mani. So, naturally I was procrastinating on taking the bitch apart again, lol. I HATE the awkward mani bolts!

First I did a search, yielded nothing. What is an manifold spacer? What does it do and why are they rare?

I figure since I cant stop fixing the damn thing, I'll just create more problems to work on. :) The stock pile has begun. Parts PArts PARts PARTs PARTS!!!
I'm a novice listen to what I say and make your own conclusion. If I'm wrong tell me and I will learn. Thanks be to the 2gnt Gods may they grant me turbo and fruits of the Earth. Amen.

Just an intake manifold insulator. The goal was to keep the intake manifold cooler by insulating it from the heat in the head. Nothing too earth shattering. Just trying to lower intake temps. They are rare because I only made 20-25 of them.

cheers

Yeah the thing is sweet! The spacer for the manifold support is a great idea. Not the fact that it "lifts" the support so it works, but the fact that it too indeed is garolite. The support would have transferred heat as well. Not any more. Brilliant!

Corbin what kind of material did you use to make these spacers? and was it hard to make?

Its a specific grade (I don't remember) of Garolite that is resistant to oil/gasoline and stable at high temperatures. It is a pretty rough environment right there. Drawing the insulator in CAD took a few hours on the weekend. The machine shop cut the parts with a waterjet and CNC mill, so for me, it wasn't hard. There was a steep learning curve, as this material has peculiar properties that take special machining strategies. I trashed 4-5 test pieces before we got it all figured out.
