So I spun a rod bearing and blew a whole in my block in 11/04 (pics upon request), and I finaly found a decent motor and instaled it in may. Ever since the new motor was put in, it feels like my car is bogging. It just doesnt seem as fast as it used to be. I have though about the fact that I have while my car was down I drove a friends modded rsx-s and another friends 3 series, so maybe it just feels slow by comparison. But I really just think it is slower that the old motor. Do you guys have any idea what could be causing this?

CLIFFS NOTES: My new motor is slower than the old one with the same mods, any idea on a fix?

Are you still breaking it in? or did you buy it already used?

I bought it with about 70K on it.

Could have bad compression?? Did you do a compression test on it? Does it idle lumpy or bad in any way?

It was actually the forth motor we found, and the first one with good compression, and it idles smoother than the old motor.

It could just be the life its had. If it was broken in rough, and driven pretty rough, it may burn some oil, but it will most likely have more power than one that was drivin 70K miles by a granny, or someone like me who baby's the engine and never drives hard.

If the engine was beat on and driven hard it will not have more power than one driven by a grandma.. If the engine is burning oil then it has blowby and the compression #'s will reflect that. In my opinion all n/a 420a's are slow and it's hard to tell if ones faster than another just by the "butt dyno". You very well could have a better/faster engine and just not realize it. As long as it drives good and smooth i wouldn't worry too much about it. If anything you might see variances of 2-3hp.

(don't worry mines still n/a and yes it's very slow)

I'm sure he meant "new" as in new to him.

yea, They dont make new 420a's, so I meant new as in new to my car. It was a used motor.

Does that clear it up.

normal. sometimes in mass production some parts come closer to actual specs. this is why we have tolerances. this is also why we get the "factory freaks" out there. just luck at times. Now if the difference is huge... check the compression.

Especially since you didnt drive the car for a long time and drove a few quicker cars, you most likely just thing its slower.

Take it to the track, see what it pulls off and then compare to stock or cars with similar mods.

I honestly think it's just the fact that you've been driving the type-s and the 3 series
