someone please help me, i just spent the last 72 hours changing and adjusting my timing belt. Been using a Chiltons and a Haynes repair manaul for instruction and reference. After changing the timing belt on my 96 RS engine will run fine at idle but will stall with engine light coming on if I drive the car down the street. OBDII scanner reads back to me the two following codes right after the engine stalls 0351 and 1390. I had checked and verfied more than 5 times that I was at TOP DEAD CENTER when I installed the new timing belt. I physically checked the cam shaft position sensor and crankshaft angle\position sensor harnesses and diagnosed it to be okay following Chiltons and Haynes repair manuals, however upon visual inspection of my crankshaft angle\position sensor it looks as if something made a few deep scratches on the end of the sensor, as if somthing struck it. I dont think this has damaged the sensor, because it seems like its just a strong magnet. I followed every step of both repair manuals and was very careful in performing each step, but I have no idea why the hell this car is stalling after a timing belt change and new water pump install. Car is a 1996 Mitsu Eclipse RS with a 2.0 non turbo engine. Thanks all in advance

When you release the tensioner, the crank spins. it's easier to turn the unloaded crank the to move a cam past a cam lobe... Eve if the cams are perfectly aligned, i'm willing to bet you're off a tooth or more at the crank.

I forgot to mention to everyone that I moved the cams and the crankshaft when i removed the old belt, im pretty sure i didnt move the cams or the crankshaft more than 360 degrees, but after i had the new belt on i handspun the crankshaft and everything lined up to TDC....running out of ideas....somebody please help!

Moved the cam and crank without the timing belt on?? why would you do that? did you use any of the write ups? or service manuals when doing this? if you had you would have seen that moving the crank and cams without the timing belt on is very deadly for the 420a. im no expert but id have to say you messed something up bad, might need some new valves now, interference motor :nono bad idea

Either your timing is off a little or you did some damage to your motor by moving the cams and not putting them back exactly where you had it. Your valvetrain may be fucked, so hope that its just timing.
