ok quick question whats the best underdrive pulley for the money i looked on e-bay and they ranged from 20-80 or so brands included megan racing Unorthodox ect...

I never ran A/C or P/S, so that outter belt groove was worthless. You can always re-attach it for later use. I forget the brand I had (unorthodox just doesn't sound right), but it was a solid one piece. You'll be happy with the gains. You could compare weight and diameter of the two pulley grooves. The smaller the pulley diameter, the more underdrive it is. The lighter it is, the easier it is to spin.

Asking what is the BEST and then implying that you want one cheap is contradictory. They aren't too expensive anyways, I got my AF/X underdrive pulley for about $90 used here (give or take) and it was in great shape other then a few surface blemishes (but who cares, it's at the bottom of the engine). Either way, a lot of people like the AF/X one otherwise; I don't remember anything about the other brands (but I wouldn't buy an OBX on principle)

Got my AFX for $140 brand new from Howell. Seems to me that's the one others are compared to, so take from that what you will. It's a pulley. It goes on the bottom of the engine. Then again, it's a moving part of your engine, so why take a risk on some sketchy eBay shit? If I didn't have the AFX, I would look into the one that ERT sells. Custom Car or something. Hit up their website.

I was happy with the fit, finish, and performance of the AFX. I would aim at buying one that holds onto the crank by an interference fit with a stainless steel collar. The remainder of the pulley will be aluminum. The collar supports the load instead of the bolt. The stainless steel is pretty durable and is a good match for the cast iron crank. I've seen some cheap pulleys that were solid aluminum with no interference fit collar and used the bolt to support the load. I don't think that is a great idea. The bolt was not designed for that and I suppose that the pulley could slip on the crank under high load. You don't want aluminum slipping against cast iron and steel as you'll probably see some wear and it might start to gall if it kept going. And make sure that the pulley has provisions for removal. Three threaded holes work nicely with a harmonic balancer puller. You wouldn't want to use a jaw puller on an aluminum pulley.

I have an unorthodox UDP, and I did notice a gain from it, and it was extremely easy to put on. Its a little pricey for a brand new one, but it gets the job done good. :thumbsup

Yup Ive got unorthodox too and it rules, i think my turbo actually spools a little faster too :)

I've installed the AFX and the ERT one.

Installation wise, if you're a "rookie" or impatient....go with the ERT as it slips right on.

If you aren't making a drag car, both will net similar gains. That means, faster revs vs. stock.

Personally, I think the AFX unit is the best. If I were buying it for my car, I'd visit Howell's site.

Im ashamed to say with all these other guys buying the good stuff, but I actually bought an Ebay one for like 30 bux I think. Honestly, I havent had a single prob the car revs quicker, faster acceleration, and I think (might be in my head) faster spool time. Now Im not sayin these ^^^^ guys wasted there money. If anything I would say go with what they are getting. Ive heard alot of bad things about the Ebay pullies. I just had the extra money to spend and thought, ah what the hell. I think maybe I ust got lucky. Ive had it for a year and a half now, with no probs. It is the Unothodox knock off, with the 3 bolts.

thanks i appreciate the info I'm not trying to be cheap or anything but if one product is as good as another I would rather pay for a good product than a popular name but i know what you mean about "getting what you pay for" anyone got one they wanna sell? anyway thanks for the advice
