91095, what first?
Posted by OneSadRS, Jul-02-05 09:47 AM
What should i do first? i have 97' RS 5-speed bone stock. i know everyone sais exhaust intake UDP and that but would it be dumb to do bigger TB and intake befor eexhaust? and as far as exhaust goes i keep hearing about swapping for the gs-t exhaust, If anyone has info about that i wouldnt mind reading it. I have also heard a bit about the AFX ECU upgrade for like 490 from howell, should u do other mods before that or does it matter? i know that my RS will never be a speed demon unless i get a turbo kit, but i just wanted to know your oppinions on it.

Do you ever plan on going turbo? If so then I would suggest sticking to a mod plan that is boost friendly. All of your questions are easily found in search and Things We've Seen Before. Have fun.

I think i will stay N/A. just dont have the $$$ for the turbo kit. ANother thing though is does anyone have any advise on the tranny, it grinds into 2 and 3, i was looking at shepherd racing they rebuild then for 800 and they say basically the only thing left from your old tranny is the case (wich they powdercoat)

you're clutch could be goin out, does it slip at all?

and as far as mods, seriously, save your money and get a turbo kit, or build a custom one, search around and you will find everything you need to make your own turbo kit, or just save a little more and get a star/hahn/concept illusions turbo kit, you'll never regret going turbo

My clutch doesnt slip but when it grinds its just like the trannys in the 1g's like every stock 1g i ever drove grinded into 2 i dunno why. and about the turbo thing i think i might actually have to do that, i do love being boosted, thats one of the best feelings ever being pulled into your seat. the hahn kits say they can be ran off stock internals. do alot of people do that? or should u rebuild first?

Edit- what would u recomend Hahn, star, CI or make my own?

definately go turbo. im holding off on all modding (maybe cat-back tho) and saving for a turbo. i would say unless u dont know what u are doing, build your own. there are some paths on here to follow for a good custom turbo kit that would be cheaper than buying a full kit. if u dont know much about turbos i would suggest buying a kit. u get basically everything u need without needing to guess what else right away.

yea a lot of people run the hahn kits on stock internals, you just have to make sure that your motors in good shape, good compression and such, the star kit comes with a bigger turbo, but the hahn kit comes with all the technical support you'll ever need, they've got a tech hotline open monday-friday if you ever have any questions and they're all really knowledgable for the most part. I personally think hahn is a better kit for someone who's just beggining to be boosted, and hahn also sells a bunch of other things you can get to upgrade your system, like the portfueler 8 injector system, or their 3-inch turbo backs, etc. I just feel a lot more secure with Hahn than any of the other kits

Thanks for the help, i have been looking at the HRC stage 2 and think that would probebly be the right way to go. I know a little bit about turbos and their setup but not as much as i would like to rely on, if anyone has any links to a page that could maybe help me understand it more that would be very appreciated...

Thanks again for the help, This forum is great, i've learned alot just reading everyones posts.

if money's an issue and you keep your eye open around here, you can pick up a used kit for cheap if you don't want to piece together your own or spend 3 grand on a new kit, i got a star stage 1 with 1g smic, i just needed gauges and intercooler piping, all in all under 1500 bucks although i think the fmu is fucked so thats more money if i get a new fmu or sfmu, but def go turbo for the cost of intake exhaust and udp your better off spendin a little more and going turbo and just boosting between 5-8 psi, it'll be a lot more power than the other mods would be
