90979, fuel regulator ??? Posted by shybuck, Jun-27-05 10:19 AM
I am waondering if u could use a boost controller on ur stock fuel regulator, where it ties into the manifold, through the vacuum line. I mean if u hack the stock reg. Using corbins write-up. I have a 95 so I have rr already. But if u hack it should max out basically then the boost controller would regulate the fuel and boost. I mean u may need 2 but it would be cheap diy if it works. what do u think?

i dont know much about these non-turbo cars; so I dont know if this post will help much..
Wouldn't you need a rising rate fuel pressure regulator in order to do this? IF so, I think it could work it would basically be the same way you hook up an AFPR. But i do not think it would be any different than hooking it straight to the intake manifold; all you would be doing is turning the boost down it technically wouldnt do anything to change your fuel pressure. (since your wastegate opens at a certain PSI(it is actually PUSHED to open by the boost pressure)) It will always be a constant 1:1 ratio assuming you have a rising rate FPR. Do these cars come stock with a rising rate?? On the turbo conversions...you do want a 1:1 rising rate FPR right?
Sorry for the dumb questions...
EDIT: i just read your post again; i think 2 boost controllers would be required to adjust fuel pressure independantly.

the 95 does come with a rrfpr. Which is what i have.

O ok cool :)
rrfpr i assume is rising rate fuel pressure regulator; my 96 esi doesnt seem to have one, but my gf's car does that explains why my 96 doesnt have one. All 95 non-turbos came with an OBD-II ECU didnt they? A friend of mine doing the conversion(on his 95) seems to think he has an obd-1.
I was thinking about it a little more you would only be able to regulate boost related fuel pressure this way - more specifically you would only be able to remove fuel (under a 1:1 ratio (or whatever the 2gnt fuel pressure regulator does) is it 1:1 rrfpr?) During off-boost situations your vehicle would still run (most likely) too rich without an AFPR (in order to turn the fuel pressure DOWN) which is very likely you will need to do. And you probably don't want to take away any fuel this way under boost conditions. I also wouldn't mess with it unless you have either: a fuel pressure gauge (in your cab) so you can watch your fuel pressure during boost) or a datalogger to watch your o2 sensor during boost.
I do not know much about the other fuel modifications you can do (such as a FMU) and how it would affect the information i posted in this message. Im going to do a search and find out how an FMU works.
