90788, new engine in but wont run?!
Posted by eclpsmoneypit95, Jun-21-05 04:08 PM
ok, here's my latest upset: i just finished installing my engine but it will not run. details: new hg, new timing belt, new water pump, new plugs, and CROWER stage 2 cams. the engine turns over, i have spark, there is fuel on the plugs after prolonged cranking, the CAS and CPS came off of a running engine, (basically all sensors came off of a running engine) but my dad says i installed the cams 180 degrees out of phase. how could this be?! ive read countless posts about installing cams and i know and understand that the intake and exhaust cams are not interchangeable and i lined everything thing up right when i put on the timing belt. (all three marks are in sync) i dont know what to do!

i put my hand over one of the exhaust ports and it was pulling air in....looks like i did the unthinkable. Let this be a lesson to everyone! check and re-check everything to make sure it is correct. if you're not sure, ask before you screw something up. well, im gonna go pull the engine back out...btw, anyone know how to install these cams? should i pay attention to the intake and exhaust dowels or the holes on top of the cams?

On stock cams (and most aftermarket) you want both holes in the camshaft (not the dowel pins, the drilled hole on the left hand side of the cam) facing up.

yea thats true. look at the post I started in this category. The drill holes should line up and work unless you have my situation where you have neon cams.

Sorta been there. Sorta done that. I was fortunate to only have the exhaust cam 180* out. Remove the tBelt, rotate the gear 180*, redo the timing - done. Still sucks.
