Well I've had this problem twice now...my radio goes out and then about 10-20 seconds later my entire car shuts off and completely dies. I know how to temporarily fix this but not permanently. Its my radio fuse in the engine, it just blows up. And I dont know why it just blows like this. The first time it happend luckily it was just in a parking lot...today it happend on the fucking highway at 70 mph! I just noticed that my radio shut off and then all of a sudden the whole car just died. I pulled over and my caution blinkers worked for about a minute but NOTHING ELSE. I couldnt check for any CELs or anything. What could this possible be with the radio fuse overheating??? Thanks in advance everyone!

you have a short, plain and simple. Now there are a few places this short could be (read anywhere) what I would do is check continuity in the power wire to the radio first and see if it's grounded somewhere. Really all I can suggest is start looking around under the hood and dash (follow wires around) to see if you can find a bare piece of wire. Short of that I would say you need someone more knowledgeable's help :shrug

Well I just went to where they towed my car and I checked all the fuses and nothing is blown. So now I guess I will just have to have the mechanic look at it. I grounded the wire to the bare metal where if you take off the side panel right next to your lower leg where the bare chassis is exposed.

So do you think maybe that where the smoke came from down by the alternator could be where a short is occuring??

did you install anything electrical ?stero? in recent times?

Well I put in a home made ground kit. -bat to right strut, -bat to transmission, transmission to head, -bat to throttle cable plate, throttle cable plate to alternator. I've had that in for about a month now and nothing ever went wrong with that. I put in a new deck around the same time and everything was fine until now. I just regrounded it in a better location. It just doesnt make sense because this is like the exact same thing that happend in the parking lot the first time when the ignition fuse and the radio fuse blew. But now no fuses went bad. There was smoke both times so i'm wondering if maybe a wire is just uncovered and it hit something like the alternator. Of course the shop didnt get to it today either so hopefully tomorrow i'll have an answer. Thanks
