90473, Some questions related to engine removal
Posted by gilee_8, Jun-11-05 06:18 PM
Sup guys, I took 99% of the stuff out of the car yesterday and today. only thing left is the engine block (which I am too tired at this moment and will wait for tomorrow)

I have 2 questions thou for tomorrow uses:

1) After I took out the engine block, how do I remove the clutch from the tranny? anything bolted on? anything I have to disconnect? anything I have to aware of?

2) When I was removing the engine mount bracket at the timing belt location, I have to move the engine up and down to get the stupid bolts out. and by doing so, I took off the front and rear engine mount as well. (but at first, I didn't take off the center cross over bar) so I lower the engien till it won't go down anymore. and I see some CLEAR oil dripping down the engine like crazying (I believe it's the clutch fluid) and it comes out from a nut that is located right behind the FRONT engine mount bracket on the tranny case.
I believe the engine was SITTING on it on the center crossover bar. Does anyone know what it is?

THanks all and sorry for the long description.

Edit: one more thing, when I take out the clutch, will there be oil coming out? I know manual uses tranny fluid, but I don't get one thing, is the SAME fluid used for lubricate the gears and also use for the hydrolic of the clutch? I been always wondering that for a few days now... Thanks again!

the clear fluid is prolly brakw fluid. which means, you prolly broke the slave cyl. or the hardline.

1st. The clutch is bolted to the engine it is going to come out with the engine.
2nd The only engine mount you have to remove is the one near the timing belt the others do not bolt to the engine they bolt to the transmission. MAKE SURE YOU PUT THEM BACK IN before you removed the engine or your transmission is going to drop out when you pull the engine. You dont ever have to remove the other engine mounts unless you are removing the tranny. You can just remove the one engine mount that is next to the timing belt and put a jack with a peice of wood, under the oil pan (wood is so you dont crack the oil pan) and just jack up or the lower the motor as needed.
The engine is going to have to come up on a tilt because the clutch and flywheel stick out. the passenger side of the engine will have to come up first and the engine will be tilted down towards the drivers side as its coming out.

Thanks for the advise.
I pulled the 420A engine out about 6 times 1.5 years ago, so I think I still remember how.
But I did an AUTOMATIC at that time. so I want to make sure if the clutch is any different.

I won't tilt the engine when take it out.
I just unbolt the TC or Clutch from the engine flywheel/flexplate from underneath before I take off the engine.

I do want to make sure 2 things & 1 question thou still.
1) Does Manual Tranny only USE ONE type of TRANNY OIL? so what I want to ask is, does lubricating the gears and giving the hydralic power of the clutch pedal uses the same type of fluid? (the tranny fluid??)

2) AFter the engine is OUT, ONLY the tranny and clutch still in the car, do I have to unplug anything like the fork or bolts or tranny fluid before I take out the clutch from the tranny?

3) This is my question mainly, as I said, I believe I damaged this "thing" when I move the engine up and down and this "thing" got contact and BENT from contacting the center crossover bar underneath the engine. (it seems like clear oil) but it's a HARD line from under the ECU to this "THING" then this "thing" itself is BOLT on to the bottom front part of the Tranny, and this "THING" has a control arm or something that STICK into the tranny (I think it control the fork) So I want to know, if I DID damaged that "THING" I have to repair it and I want to find out what it is.

Sorry guys, I am keep using that "THING" word, coz I have no clue what it is, I am guessing it is the master or slave cylinder for the clutch. Please give me some pro advise on this! Thanks alot everyone!

ok that "thing" you think you broke was morethan likely the slave cylinder for the clutch you probbly also bent the hard line as well. and the hydruolics (i know i didn't spell that right) uses brake fluid and the tranny fluid is a gl-4 75w-80 or a 75w-90 synthetic gear lube and will take about 4 quarts im not to sure. good luck though.

Excellent! One question answered. Thanks alot!
I never know the Clutch hydrolic system uses the brake fluid!
good to know.

I tighten the bolt back, and it stopped leaking, should I worry about it?

And guys, usually how long it take you guys to receive your clutch from ERT?
I bought a SPEC 3 Clutch from them like 10 days now. nothing yet.
They charged my credit card, but nothing. I sent them 2 emails asking about it, but nothing so far. anyone bought it from ERT before?

Thanks.

Im not sure why you did not just order from SPEC and cut out the middle man. You may have saved a little money by ordering from ERT, but look at all the time that is wasted. I got my stage 4 from spec in like 3 day's($496 shipped) and they had to acutally make it for me. Im not knocking on ERT, but they are not really large like summit or jegs. Customer service is likley not very high on thier list of thing to be good at.

The clutch is bolted to the flexplate on the engine. The input shaft from the tyranny just slides into the clutch. No fluids will come out when you seperate the engine/tyranny.

it also sounds like you need a service manual, I beleive dino had it in a PDF that you can download, not sure where to find it though.

the first solution that comes to mind for any new problem with my car usually involves a can of gas and a match.....:wallbash
