I want to get a short shifter, but I have no ideas on whats the best one? Any help?

And is it a diffcult install to pull of by yourself?


Also, how can you tell if your clutch is worn? This is my first stick shift car, so i'm having trouble figuring out if my clutch is worn or not.

It does seem like it doesn't catch that quickly, and when i change gears, it seems like it's not catching until the last inch or so as i'm pulling my clutch foot back up.

Shortshifters are easy as cake once you take the center console out. And that's only six screws.

Try to leave from a dead stop in second gear. If your revs go up and your car doesn't move, it's going to be clutch time soon. If you can get moving in second froma dead stop, i wouldn't worry about it.

another way to check to see if you clutch is good is put it in 4th and slip the clutch at like 3k and if the engine dies your clutch is still good. Auto teacher told me this ^_^

that the clutch does not grab until the last couple of inches from the top(let all the way out/upward). If that is true, you need to adjust your clutch pedal.....see earlier post. Try this: start the car, put clutch in, put in first gear, do not touch gas pedal, let car idle, slowly let clutch pedal out and take note of when your rpm's dip/how far clutch pedal is off the floor. Should be approx. 2 inches or so. If you let your pedal out more than that and your car has not budged/rpm's dip, then you need to readjust your pedal. Once you have proper adjustment, if you let out the clutch in second gear(try keeping 2K rpm) and you can accelerate from a full stop. Your clutch is fine. If your clutch is slipping, you should also be able to smell it.

If you want quicker engagement, use the clutch restrictor mod that Dino brought up in this post. You could also get a stainless line like Michael is using. I will probably buy one when I put in a new centerforce modular clutch.

DeanoD: I read the post on adjusting the pedal, i'm still kinda clueless as to where i'm actually suppose to go to get to that nut. Under the car? Inside the car?
