90451, gs-t muffler vs. spyder muffler, think i got ripped Posted by silverarrow, Jun-10-05 02:45 PM
So, my "GS-T" muffler finally got here. I spent over an hour under the car and all I have to show for it is two stripped exhaust bolts and a pending hole in the wall if I don't calm down. I even used a torch and vice grips. So I decided, after spending all last weekend getting raped by my throttle body, I am just gonna take in my car and have a shop put on my muffler.......but first let me check the Chilton manual.........WHAT? Chilton manual shows the flange/bracket for the 2gnt, GS-T and 2.4 Spyder are all the same, thing is, the GS-T has dual exhaust with tips and the 2.4 Spyder has dual exhaust-no tips, and longer piping out the back of the muffler, kinda like my stock gs exhaust but with 2 pipes instead of one. did i get robbed? am i right in thinking I ordered a GS-T muffler and got a 2.4, or does it even make a difference. let me know before I spend money putting this thing on.

90452, OK, AND THEN I SEARCHED-SORRY Posted by silverarrow, Jun-10-05 03:03 PM
Sorry guys. I have had a really pi$$ed on week, AND I have a flagrantly obnoxious habit of working on my car, getting REALLY MAD, and posting before searching.
Anyway, every searched thread claims the 2 exhaust systems are exactly the same. I'm gonna have to go on faith. However, I assure you that the mufflers look very different in the manual, which is what spooked me, as now I know I have a Spyder 2.4 exhaust. I don't give a rat's a$$ about the tips so if they function the same but don't look as good, well, my car doesn't look good (relative to other eclipses) anyway.
Anyone know how much I should be paying to have the muffler put on keeping in mind the fact that I destroyed one bolt semi and another completely? MAN AM I #%@#$$# MAD.
Did I tell you that while I was stripping the bolts, my sister's hot friend pulled up and I tried to hit on her forgetting that I had my Buddy Holly safety glasses on. I must've looked like one of the Hansen brothers from "Slapshot". @#$ @#$ @#$%^%#@ @#$%#$@ W#$%$% WHAT A CRAPPY DAY.

If you want to bring it over tomorrow afternoon if its not raining I can do it here, I got some big torches muhahah. I have a question though, is it just the muffler or is it complete over the axle. I already have a 2g N/A flanged pipe cut off that could be brazed on if its just the muffler or even if your new one is different. Its the least I can do for not being able to help you much last time. The flange you see in the pic is what I have if your new one is different and I have alot of adapter's. My tools don't leave till sunday so what ever you decide to do is cool. I may have to make a quick trip out for anything I need I can't find but its no prob.
heres me in action

And heres how you fix broken/stubborn bolts on the flange, just grind off the welded nuts and put in new bolts
and one more for the hell of it

You are on! Anytime is cool just let me know where and when. Hopefully I am just a retard and you can get the bolts out easily. I am guessing that I will need new bolts so I will go to BAS in J-Town and get them myself.
PS-my cel25 went away after a couple of days on the stock TB! Figures that the day before I meet up with you my need for an OBD II disappears like that.

ahem yes..the end all solution to rusted on exhaust bolts is a cut-off wheel. i got 2 outta 3 of mine...had to cut the last one off. just slip another nut/bolt through...done
