okay im sorry if i could have found this in a search but its late and i searched for about 20-30 minutes with not much luck. I recently got all my belts changed at...satan. My car squealed a very little once i picked it up and stopped for the next few miles. then a few days later i go to drive it and it squeals all the time very very very loud. now when i did get my belts replaced they said the something about the AC clutch part is going bad and will cause some belt noise. Well this is where my post comes in. The squealing increases speed and pitch at the higher RPMs im at and doesnt change at all if i turn the AC on or off so i think its a different belt but i could be wrong..i dont know much about belts. I dont really feel safe spraying WD-40 on my belts and i dont want to buy some belt spray just to test this. Could it be my timing belt. or does the PS and AC belt run faster at higher RPMs. just let me know what you guys think it would be a great help to me.

I forgot to add that durring this time my car sat outside in the rain for about 1-2 hours before i started it and durring the whole time driving it was raining. I read that belts could condense water in them and can squeal for a few days after it was moist or raining so that could be it too. thanks again all!

sounds like it could be the alternator belt. check it out. but it may also be the p/s belt...maybe it needs more tension. my bet is that its the alternator belt though.

wait till it is dry out, and then listen for where the noise is coming from. if no noise, spray water on the pulleys to instigate it. it is completely normal for the belts to stretch after you just got them replaced. for the alternator you need a prybar and a ratchet set, and a friend working one or the other may help. if you can't get it right, take it back so they can do it from under the car and make sure they dont charge you. if it is the accessory belt, you are super-dooper-pooper-scooper lucky because all you need is a ratchet. just loosen the tensioner pulley (has no accessory on it) and then dial out the adjustment bolt BLING-BLAU and you're done. just don't forget to tighten the tensioner pulley back down or you will throw a belt like my dumb butt.

If it doesnt do it only when the AC is on then it is not the AC unit itself. The belts are probably not as tight as they should be. They are not hard to tighten. Both the alternator and the power steering units have tensioner bolts on them that are easy to tighten from under the hood, just make sure you are turning them the correct direction. Press on the belts and see if either of them is noticably loose. Timing belt would not squeel, and WD-40 is a nono. They are squeling because the belts are not gripping properly to the pulleys and wd40 would only make things worse. And yes the belt speed does increase with RPM. They are propeled by a pulley connected to the crank which spins faster with engine speed(rpm). There is a belt spray you could buy and try on the belts and pulleys which is a sticky liquid to help the belts grip, but I've been told its not good on the belts, especially if they are new. Try tightening the tensioner bolts.

And about the rain, wet weather will cause the belts to squeel if they are not tight enough, and they may not squeel once dried. But they SHOULDN'T squeel at all even in wet weather if they are tightened to proper specs. Also if they are really loose, the belts could slip off at high rpms and ruin the belts or possibly cause more serious problems.

lol...speaking of belts falling off. i was going to tighten the belts this morning but last night i was driving and the noise went away...and so did powersteering. so i pulled over and that belt fell off and im assuming in the process took out a chunk of the other belt with the alternator on it becuase that was half gone. So i took it back to satan this morning and they put those two new ones on for free. and the noise went away so they were really loose but they fell off before i had time to tighten them. but now i have yet again new belts and learned if they squeal...tighten them!...thanks for all the help though guys!
