90415, Battery Light is mocking me... Posted by dsmracer, Jun-09-05 02:59 PM
alright, so i just finished a full rebuild not more than a month ago, and i just started to drive my car again 2 days ago. along with my rebuild, i put in a new alternator and Optima RedTop, while i also have a Unorthodox Racing UDP.
heres my problem...
when i start my car, no batter light. i will let it fully warm up, start driving, and probably no more than...2 minutes into the drive, the light will come on. i can shut the car off, let it sit a few minutes, and start it again with no battery light, but once again, in a few minutes the light is on again.
i know the underdrive pulley will cause something along these lines, but what is the solution for it? Also, i've seen a Voltage Regulator Mod suggested in an old post(i've been searching for an hour or so), but i can't seem to find it anywhere.
thanks alot in advance

also forgot to add, yesterday, replaced battery terminal connectors. so those are new, tight, and not corroded. also today at work( I'm a ford mechanic...) threw the system tester on my battery.... battery is good, but charging system has low voltage or 12.57v.
one other question, if anyone has a picture or the main ground on the tranny, i just want to reassure myself that it is properly located.

Is the wire harness that plugs into the alternator nice and tight, and not corroded? You *may* get a batt light when at idle with a underdrive pulley though..that I would consider normal, and voltage should jump right up once off idle, or even one or two more hundred rpm. Neg batt cable on the trans usually is on the front, the one that bolts the starter to the bellhousing..It's not imperative exactly where its at, but closer to the starter, the better. Be sure to check your main chassis ground at the driver strut tower also. Check the main 120 amp fuse under the fuse box lid too..

I know I have a rather large one, if your looking right at the motor second bolt down on the tranny housing.

When you turn on the car and your battery light is off and then you turn the car on and after a few minutes the battery light comes on it is your altenator. A good battery will charge itself when it is not on, but then as soon as you start or turn on anything that has to deal with electricty you drain the battery down and the alternator does not recharge the battery, the battery light comes on. Glad to see it was only a fuse in this case.
