I did not take a picture of it when I took it off and it's been a week now. The book does not say which way to install it. So is it trench in toward the block or trench out toward the clutch? My new seal does not have a 'this side out' written on it. I did the search but only came up with 6 or so posts, they did not indicate which way...

Your rear main seal should have a spring on one side of the seal to keep it snug against the end of the crank (the circular section of the crank that has the bolt holes for the flex plate). The side of the seal that contains the spring goes on the inside of the block (flat side without spring faces the flex plate). If your seal doesn't have a spring, I would be very cautious of using your rear seal as you may have purchased the wrong one. Read my post from a couple of years ago:
