9010, Ball joint recall, alignment, mitsu dealers, grrrrrrrrr
Posted by jdeyo, Nov-27-01 03:07 PM
I am so pissed of at my mitsu dealer... I thought I could trust those guys cause they have been good in the past. However I put them to the test... I had my car aligned a few days before I went to have the ball joint recall done (third time?) and have the front lower control arms replaced. My alingment only needed a little adjustment. Once the recall service was done I asked the service manager if I need to have the car aligned, he said no. I drove the car to Naples, FL that weekend and the car drove like hell. I thought that maybe they screwed something up with the axles or something. So I go get another alignment, my toe was off 15 degrees on the driver side and off -26 degrees on the passenger side. The rear passenger side toe was off also. Once I had the alignment done again (one week later) the car is smooth again.

Get your car aligned after you have the ball joint recall done or the lower control arms replaced.

Jared,
Coastal Mitsubishi huh? I'm scared to bring my car in to them, first off, they'll probably say that my ball joints won't be covered because my car is "customized", second, they'll probably end up cracking my kit....what do youthink i should do?

Well, they scraped my front a lil. My car is lowered on sportlines and has a good deal of custom shit. They have to cover it no matter what if they are bad, because if u wreck, they have to pay for everything. My friend had one break while driving and they bought her a new set of skirts and a front. Too bad she was stock-bodied. They did scrape my front some, but I touched it up. No biggie. I didn't care as long as it wasn't busted and wasn't major.

Well I have tried Boniface Hiers Mitsu up in Merrit Island, and they seem to be more cool with mods. I brought my car there for a engine diag during my O2 sensor saga and before I handed over the keys, the service manager asked me what I had done to the car. They seemed really cool, and supposedly they have a mechanic who is a pro on Mopar stuff. I usually bring my car to Steve at Little Tiger Auto on Palm Bay RD. for all my stuff now that my car is out of warranty. Steve is a customer of mine for computer stuff, so we trade services. Too bad he can't do warranty work. Perhaps you should call up the Merrit Island dealer and see if they will do your recall.

EXACTLY! My dealer said I didn't need an alignment, but I found out I had -0.83 toe on each side. I think you meant -0.xx. Because I don't think you can have much more than -1 degree of toe. The factory limit allows up to -0.24 or something like that. Everyone get an alignment if the dealer didn't align it for you (which they don't have to since the recall says nothing of it)

I wanted them to do a free alignment after swapping out the control arms. I figured they would resist, so I call up without telling them who I am and ask if I would need an alignment after changing out the front lower arm. The tech quickly agreed that I would need to get an alignment after such a procedure. Then I say, "well you just changed my control arm under recall, why didn't you do an alignment?". He hands the phone off and the manager says that Mitsu won't cover the alignment. My alignment was messed up because of a recall on a bad part and I have to pay for it out of pocket? It just didn't sound right. But what can you do? I bought an alignment somewhere else. Then, a week later, I notice that my CV boot is ripped into 2 pieces. The rip conveniently located exactly above the nut that must be removed to change the lower arm. I am sure that it is because of the dealer (the boots were fine the week before). The dealer examines it and comes to the conclusion that it has been cut. They won't own up to it and I can't prove they did it. So I buy a new axle and install it myself. I can tell you no dealer will ever touch my car again for as long as I own it.

I have to have my recall done in a few weeks, i am hoping everything goes smoothly.. Hope they dont crack my front fascia, or fxgg anything up, cause I'll throw a shit fit. Seems like anytime I take my car to any shop, something happens, scratch here, opps this broke sir, etc... I Am gonna print up info showing that if the lower contol arms are replaced, that an alignment needs to be done, then I'll call around and get testamonies of people that say an allignment must be done, and doccument it all, then I'll take all that with me when I go to the dealer...
