90015, Questions on Crank Scraper and JE piston Rings
Posted by gilee_8, May-30-05 07:46 AM
Sup guys.
I finally recieved the HOWELL bottom end Long Rod Kit (after 3 months of waiting)

But I decided to go for JE piston rings instead of the total seal rings. so here is the question I have.

Where can I get the JE piston rings (cheapest & fastest)?
Coz my kit is .020 bored over, and it's the long rod kit, is it matter to just get any JE piston rings?

Second is, I need the Crank Scraper as well.
Since I want to make sure my bottom end won't starve on oil when turned hard. where you guys recommend me to get it from? $45 right?

BTW guys, since I didn't drive my eclipse for so long, is there anything to keep in mind of? I got a new battery, and my engine oil prolly 50%-80% leaked out already. any idea?
Thanks again guys!
I greatly appreciated.
Gil

Edit: I am still extremely pissed about my g/f eclipse (on the salvage DMV crap) but I am very excited on my own eclipse's reborn. its been down for 6 months!

um.. i dunno where to get je rings. i used them before, good rings. im am now using hastings rings on my long rod kit, they work good. make sure you use the support ring. also, i think best place for crank scapper is on ebay.

I have a crank scraper for $20 in the for sale section.

But, if you are looking to prevent oil starvation in hard turns, you will need to buy an oil pan baffle too which sticks down into the oil pan forcing the oil to stay put during turns. A plain oil crank scraper will not provide that kind of oil control.

and if your asking if you change anythign else while your rebuilding, i would put in a new water pump and timing belt to save you some times down the road :)

Thanks for the tip on the water pump and timing belt, but I just changed all the pulley, tensior, belt, water pump last year. so I think I am good right?

So oil pan baffle is what I needed? or do I need a oil crank scrapper AND WITH a oil pan baffle?

Thanks guys.
So JE doesn't make rings anymore? so I have to get the hasting rings? because I thought JE is better.

Thanks again for your input!

You can get the JE rings from Concept Illusions and they'll get em to you really fast. I got mine from them along with my pistons and my car runs like a champ after rebuild. Concept Illusions is the shit.

You won't get a crankscraper to work with a stroked 420a. The crank will hit it on it's way by.

:scratch How'd you get 'stroked 420a' from 'long rod kit'? Two different things.

Thanks for the tip on where to get the JE piston rings.

anyone has idea on where is the best place to get the oil pan baffle?

and does the oil pan baffle required to use with the oil scrapper?

THanks all.

I got "stroked 420a" from "long rod kit" + "half paying attention to what I am typing on a forum while at work."

My bad. eBay has an abundance of crankscrapers, but you could also get them from http://www.crank-scrapers.com.

I would recommend getting the baffles as well as the crankscraper, as you need some kind of oil control in your pan.

That's not a bad price imo.
