I know I know, please dont bash me. I just need to know about the trimming of the ears for the brackets you get from dodge for the diff. How much to trim off so it doesnt rub.

Yep, you can weld it or put in the brackets. Same effect.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Phantom Grip thing is a scam. It doesn't work, and it's a libality in your transaxle. I have one, it doesn't do shit. One of these days I will take it out. IMO save up for a Diff. Retrofit or a Quaife.

Well, I don't know how well it works launching but it does do something. I got stuck in the sand at the beach but was able to get out with the help of my floor mats and the phantom grip... both wheels where spinning the whole time, without the PG I would have had to call a tow truck.

Has it noticibly reduced your 60' times or helped reduce inside wheelspin while coming out of a corner?

didn't make it to a track with it installed... the tranny it was in lasted 2 weeks. Looking at the peices i believe the people that rebuilt the trans reused some parts that weren't reusable and it caused another failure, or the PG did it :shrug

Could be any number of things. When putting a transmission back together it's easy to forget something. The first time I took my transmission apart I almost forgot the little black plastic O ring that goes on the reverse gear. I saw it on the workbench and thought "oh shit, that's suppose to be on the reverse gear shaft... in the transmission which is already assembled and sealed..." If I forgot that I would have never been able to get it into reverse. Also the caged needle bearing has to be installed the correct way or else it will heat up and the plastic cage will melt causing all of those little cylinders to go flying around the transmission. There's probably a million things that can go wrong in there.

Yea, that is what happened to mine. I did 1 short burn out and then ran it with a g-tech. stopped to do a 3-point turn and it just locked up in first, had to get out and rock the car to get it in nuetral, then it wouldn't go into any gear with the motor running, had to turn it off, put it in gear then crank it... had to use 1st till i got to a hill then turned it off, put it in 3rd then cranked it and rode 3rd gear back to town... and the plastic bearings are what melted and then all the metal got broken and shit... but yea, I beleive they had to jack something up in the assembly process.

I have a limited slip insert in my tranny too and I didn't have to do anything to the safing brackets.. I just installed them as is. Is this a bad thing? Doesn't seem to have caused me any problems so far.

As for the performance of the LSI, it does help some but not nearly as much as a true limited slip diff would. I got mine for like $60 on ebay tho so it was worth it for me.

(EDIT) Actually, it's been so long since I installed those brackets... maybe I did have to trim them. After looking at those pics I think I may have.

Just a heads up, after working with many Retrofit units, the Phantom grip is nothing more than a paperweight.

When we assemble the Retrofits, we use a special Torque Tool to proporly set the torque rating on the diff. On the retrofit, we set them at around 65-70ft/lbs before it starts to slip. Just for fun we tested a diff with a Phantom Grip, and not only did the whole insert flex and bind, but it took no more than 2-3ft/lbs to slip. Trust me, dont install it.

Well, (sigh) Im not one to half ass it, so I emailed them to refund my money. I'll save the funds up for something real.

I don't have the phantom grip I got one of those NewSkool Slip in diffs that they don't sell anymore. It works great as far as I'm concerned, I got it for cornering and it does a great job, you can actually feel the front of the car clawing at the ground all FFs should come with LSDs. I'm sure a normal clutch type LSD would be better but hey I didn't pay a lot for it and it worx great.

It seems like there have always been mixed reviews. It is commonly accepted that the Phantom Grip will never be an equal to the Quaife (a true LSD) but it does do the job in straight line racing. Before I ran the Quaife I had a Phantom in my case for about 3000-4000 miles. Right out of the garage I could feel and see the difference. The car would leave two even length black marks through first and second at 25ish PSI.

This was just my personal experience that I thought I would share.

did you have the stiffer springs installed with your PG? Did your PG cause any problems? why did you bother paying the extra for the quaife if the PG was already installed? just curious.

When I put it in they didn't make the stiffer upgrade springs yet. (That or I didn't know of their existence)

The Phantom Grip didn't cause any problems for me.

I originally ordered my PG and let it sit until I needed a new clutch. During that self time I started to read a lot of conflicting information on it. The majority of people who were running a PG set up liked it, others said it was no good. Being the chicken shit that I am I got scared and ordered the best solution on the market. When the time came I decided give the PG a try anyway. My findings were that the PG worked as well as the quafe in a straight line launch but there was a difference in cornering, the quaife being superior.
