I've got two questions. 1. I just finished my rebuild and everything seems to be running great, except for one thing, I have a new Spec stage 4 and installed it correctly, greased the TO bearing and havn't taken it over 4k RPM. It's been about 225 miles and I've noticed when I start off from a dead stop, while I'm slipping the clutch, it seems to shake the hell out of the car until I push the clutch back in, then start to ease it out, and starts shaking like mad again. Is this normal since it's brand new, and will it go away once it breaks in?? Also, I have good oil pressure etc, but when idling, my car has a definite clicking or ticking to it. I don't know what rod knock sounds like, but the sound goes away when I rev the motor, or the sound from the motor just drowns it out. I have JE Pistons, Eagle rods, Crower 2's with valve springs and retainers, SBI rockers and lashers. I thought it might be pistons slap, but it seems like it's only coming from over piston #1 (in the head possibly). When I did my head rebuild about 7 months ago, I had the Crower stuff and the SBI rockers and lashers and they made no noise at all. So, the SBI rockers and lashers are pretty damn new. Sorry for this being so long, but I am really trying to get everything on my car working perfectly. Oh yeah, it's been 225 miles and I have not had a single check engine light as well, so if it was knock, don't we have a knock sensor that would throw a CEL? Thanks for any help at all.

Sounds like a motor mount either loose or broken.

its the clutch.

spec sucks balls.

So, the clutch is going to do that all the time? The motor mounts are in perfect condition. It only happens while the clutch is starting to engage. Other than that, there is no shaking at all. Any thoughts on the sound coming from my motor?

its callec clutch shudder, it wont do it all the time but spec clutches have a habit of fucking up on us...so id get that POS out of your car as soon as possible, in all honesty.

im dealing with a bunk spec clutch myself, and SPEC customer service is the biggest pain in the ass ever.

you have a 120 day warranty from spec, my suggestion is to take them up on it for a full refund and get a CM clutch while you still can.

It's more commonly called clutch "chatter", and is perfectly normal for a new clucth, esp when it has ceramic linings. It will prob take 700-1000 miles or so for it to get better. It will prob never go away though. You will get used to it, and will learn a better clutch/gas combination to start the car off with minimal chatter.

Is it normal to hear the clutch chen I'm idling? When the car is just sitting there is neutral, it makes a lot of little noises, and when I push in the clutch, it goes away, is that the TO bearing? Also, any thoughts on the engine noise when I'm just idling? Thanks for the help.

If you hear a rattle sound when the car is in N, and clutch not depressed, but the rattle goes away when you press in the clutch, then that is the throwout bearing rattling around on the clutch fork. It's a farily common noise on these transmissions, esp with an aftermarket clutch setup. Mine's done it since day one of the clutch install. 30k+ miles like that, and it's still fine, so I wouldn't worry about it. Just be sure that you have the small metal clips on the TOB attached to the clutch fork. It can be missed, and the rattle can be much worse if this is the case.

my clutchmaster stg 3 does this bad when its in reverse. *shrug*. I just bought the spec stg 4. Hope its not as bad as my CM.

Well, mine does it pretty bad in reverse, it's a little better in 1st, though not by much. I hope you have better luck then I did. I really hate the way the car takes off from 1st, what a bitch. But, the price we pay for our fun. :)

mine feels like wheel hop when its in reverse. Is that similar to what yours feels like?

Perdy much. Damn wheel hop. (minus the wheel hop) It's like that in 1st and reverse. Then again, I only have 225Miles on it. :)
