So i pull out the plugs from my motor today to find wear on them that i have never seen before in any of my previous cars plugs, im attaching pictures instead of describing them so you can see for yourselves. Can anyone diagnose why they wore this way? This isnt normal is it? For the record I didn't put the Iridiums in, the previous owner did. I will be buying NGK's, should i buy the regular ESI ones or the TSI replacements since i have a turbo put on?

It just likes like it's running really rich, but it's hard from only looking at a picture that's not very well lit. How many miles are on the plugs?

Just replace them with the NGK BKR7E'S. As for the plugs I can't see them, so what's wrong with them?

that is one super dirty plug.. did you drop it on the ground or what? seems like its been in there for a while, and from the dark picture seems like there is a lot of carbon on it. can't see much more.

Looks like a normal high-mileage iridium plug. Just get BKR-7E *IF* you have a turbokit (.028 gap). Champion RC9YC5/NGK BKR6E-11 (.045 gap) if you're nonturbo.

id be more concerned with the look of those threads. either theres a horrible combustion irregularity or someone went loco with the ratchet installing those things.

okay i am turbo so i will get the bkr7e-11's. As for the threads, the person who put them in must have a been a body builder or something.

Where at any point in this thread did you read the numbers "-11"?

BKR7E is a turbo gapped plug appropriate for our engines when turbocharged.
BKR7E-11 is a nonturbo gapped plug that has no application on our motors short of a $5,000 custom ignition for a drag race motor.

The two are absolutely not interchangable.

The manufacturer recommends that you tinyurl.com/2pzgc because the electrodes can become misaligned, cause uneven wear, or even break off. Since your bkr7e-11's came pre-gapped at .045", you had to adjust your gap .014" which is nearly double the manufacturer's recommended maximum.

interesting... ive been running the 11's for over a year gapped to .035 and .030 and have not had any problems at all :shrug

There are people running 150 shot of nitrous on a stock motor without problems either. :shrug

Hell, you can run sparkplugs from a lawnmower if they thread in right. They may not give you quite as much power, but hey, they'll run just fine.

For me, its a matter of whether I want to do the research, spend the whopping $8 and buy the right part number... or throw in the wrong part for my application, run it outside the manufacturers spec, and risk my $3000 engine.

To each his own I guess.

well the NGK website said for colder, just go up one number. the recommended plug for my car was the BKR6E-11, so i just got the BKR7E-11. oh well, ill know this for next time, since i just put some new ones in
