Sup guys.
I was doing some searching and reading , and I came across alot of info about rebuilding engine that including balancing, and blueprint for the rebuilt short block.

I understand why the engine requires to get balanced, but what is BLUEPRINT??
Can someone explain to me what blueprint is? one of the post when I searched said it will follow the manual spec, and measure the distance from the center of the piston to the center of the piston? what does that means?

I thought rebuilding an engine has to follow the spec of the manual?

can someone please explain!

Blueprinting is documentation of all measurements and specs of the motor. Blueprinting is prrof of how "tight" or "loose" the motor is built. In a sense it is proof of how your motor is built. Its not required but nice to have.

Reverse blueprinting is something entirely different and not done by a standard machine shop. Reverse blueprinting is taking each/any peice of the motor and putting on a reverse blueprint macine at various angles. the machine has an arm and sensor that takes measurements of the part (measurements are done smaller than a MM) this takes extremly long but the result is an actual casting blueprint of the part. This may be done by an engineer looking to machinea replacement of the part that failed. This is cost efficient when the part is no longer available and the replacement means changing out what you are working on, in this case a motor. NOte this is not usually done with automotive motors in general unless you are dealing with someting very rare. Where i work, the engineering dept has one guy that operates this machine and produces blue prints for the Machinests to recreate various parts inside transformers when they fail. The process is amazing to watch and take part in.

That's a bit excessive. Most refer to blueprinting an engine as checking all your clearances and tollerances to make sure they are within the specs you want, and correct those that aren't. Not many keep track as long as it's within what you want. Unless of course maybe you are building a race engine and it's a good reference if something fails.

if you're gonna blue print it, you might as well do it all right and be precise, for instance cc'ing each combustion chamber to make sure they are all exactly the same and getting the right compression ratio numbers. basically, every part of the engine is measured/machined very precisely

off topic.....gil did you get your longrod kit from howell? I ordered mine a bit over 2 months ago, I get NO responses to email, so I guessing they are blocking by spam email filter. Anyway just wondering how long it took to get your kit.

It's 2 months now.. nothing yet.
But I am just preparing myself for the rebuild.
I will start taking engine out in the end of May!
I hope my baby can be back on the road by July!

I feel ya man, I have been waiting too :). I ordered .04 over pistons, so im guessing I should get this engine kit by the time I'm 31-32.
