I just finished rebuilding my engine for the second time after howell automotive fucked me with the wrong pistons, and the wierdest damn thing is happening.

I got everything bolted up just fine, and the wiring harness is all hooked up correctly to the best of my knowledge, but when I go to start the car this happens:

The fuel pump doesn't come on, I checked fuel pressure and there is absolutely none.
And when the key is in the run position the A/C radiator fan comes on. That part I really don't understand.

So what should be happening in the run position is the fuel pump coming on instead of the fan, but the fan does. Now, I am not sure if some wires got crossed, or if this is an indicator of the ECU going out, or what...

Anyhow, please help with any little ideas you guys might have.

I am going to check all the grounds and connections today when I have a chance. I didn't see a designated relay for the fuel pump, but I am going to check that it is at least getting power, and of coarse I might have to change it out, however it all worked fine before the rebuild, so why would it quit now?

Well is your ac blower on? If you left the controls on when you took it down to rebuild it then it will still be on. I know this sounds simple but check the controls. As for the fuel pump you should hear a short priming sound as you turn the key. I don't know how audible the stock pump is but I would imagine you can hear it a little though. My personal bet is on your ASD relays or something. I find it very very unlikely that you would cross the fan and fuel pump suggestions.

I checked the controls for the a/c, and they are off.
So I still don't get that.

I don't think the fuel pump failed, however it is posible that it did.
I am going to switch a few of the relays around to make sure that it is not a relay, then replace the pump.
BTW: Do you know which relay it is? It is not labeled on either fuse panel.

I don't hear any pumping sound like I normally do, so I am pretty sure it is the pump not the FPR or something.

Pretty sure he's talking about the relays up on the firewall in front of the driver (near the clutch master). :thumbsup

ok so just to confirm, the button is fully out and there is no yellow or green light on the button for the A/C and the blower is off right? (I ask because if it's on low that yellow light will be on and even with the blower off it will still cause the fan to come on.. The ASD relay is by the firewall on the drivers side. There will be 2-3 relays there, one is fuel, one is spark, and on the auto cars there is one more. These must be plugged in for the fuel and/or spark to work. You can also check the fuel pump, but I don't think there is a stock relay, and that's why we re-wire the fuel pumps to have relays. You should check the fuses too but like I said I see no way for those 2 to get switched so you are likely looking for things other than crossed wires...

Ok, I fixed the fan problem, it was a stuck button. Sorry for the stupid question when it was an easy fix...

I replaced the fuel pump, and the same thing happens.

I took the fuel line off the pump discharge, and lets just say that the pump is doing its job very well.

I can't see how anything would suddenly clog the lines, so my last guess is that it must be the FPR.
I was under the impression that when those failed that they would still allow fuel to pass. I guess that is not the case, or am I wrong?

Does this make since? Or do you think that it may be something else?

Oh, thanks for the heads up on where those relays were... I always woundered what those relays were. I just assumed they were blinkers, or wiper relays or something...

Ok just to confirm the fuel pump is getting power and pumping fuel then correct? If so then there are only a few more gremlins to chase here. You either have a bad reading on the pressure, or you have some kind of blockage, or we have the lines hooked up wrong. So first what are you using to check pressure? Guage, if so where is it mounted in the fuel system? The filter could be clogged causing an FP issue. Or if you didn't route the lines properly then it may be trying to feed fuel through the return line. What year is the car and do you have an aftermarket FPR. Give us some more info and we'll see what we can do...

I didn't route any extra lines, and I don't see how anything would get clogged. I put cloth with tape over the end of the connection when I pulled the motor. I didn't touch any of the fuel system during the rebuild, therefor all that is connected the same.

I replaced the fuel pump, and removed the discharge hose, ran the pump for half a second, and I think it is safe to say that it is pumping plenty of fuel.

I think that it must be the regulator failing on me. It is a little wierd considering it worked fine before I did the rebuild, but nothing is strange to me at this point if you know what I mean.

I will replace the regulator tomorrow when it comes in, then let you all know if it was a success or not, I really fucking hope it works, if not I might just shoot myself.

Stupid question... how did you test the fuel pressure?
