8885, Got my used cams.... Posted by Talon95Stang, Oct-16-01 03:04 AM
I got my used cams, but they have a lot of scratches on them. I also got some used aem cam gears and they have some marks on them as well. Does anyone know if this will effect anything? I don't want to mess up my engine!!!

Shouldn't be a problem. Where on the cams are the scratches? That's what i'd be most concerned about.

Yeah, I wouldn't think it would really be a problem. If the scratches are on the lobes you could take a fine grit sand paper and smooth them out before install.

Mine had some scratches on the lobes but I but them in anyways. I plan on replacing the valves, valvesprings, lifters and rockers anyway and billet cams are a little on down the road so it really doesn't matter to me.

OK sounds good. I'm going to fine sand the cams. but what about the cam gears? The black aroung the gear part has alot of scratches. Wil this wear the belt faster? Thanks

Nah. That belt is tough, and fine scratches in the paint shouldn't hurt anything. _____________________________________________ -Dino Yancey Hello me, it's Me Again!

I fine sanded the cams and they came out sweet as hell. I cant wait to put them in!! What else should I install besides New lifters and rocker arms. Is it necessary to install new valves and valve springs? And what is the difference between the new design lifters and the PT lifters (besides $50)

Make sure you install shims under the lifters to make up for the metal removed from the regrinds. The difference between the 2001 rockers/lifters and the older ones is the 2001 don't break at higher RPM and oil get to the top end better.

I will be hitting the track tomorrow for some better times than the last time. I have only been to the track once and ran sucky times with the full stereo and jack and shit in the car. She is stripped to the bone right now for the track tomorrow so I can see some real times. I'll let you know.
