im going to be using a wideband for tuning. j/w what ya'll thought about this http://www.plxdevices.com/R-500_productinfo.htm

looks nice, but for the money you can do a lot better. www.innovatemotorsports.com

look at the zeitronix also 279 and has datalogging capabilities

i think they all have datlaogging capabilities. i liek the WBo2 because when you register it for 20.00 it will produce a matrix of your AFR in a table. you can chose your x/y axis but most people are using RPM against MAP values. Makes tuning a ve table easier.

Dyno Jet's Wideband Commander here.
The Techedge wbo2 is inaccurate and hardly anyone can get trustworthy readings from the extra 0 to 5 volt inputs or the thermalcouplers.
I mostly went with the Dynojet unit because of the autometer like PRORAMMABLE 2 1/16 gauge for my pillar. No need to have software running unless you want to log it and you can be sure you are safe all the time.
Techedge does have a similar gauge out, but they have no date for release at this time and doesn't look good to me.

On the wbo2 you have to define the readings you get. you need to input the resistance/voltage values and what they are equivelant to. if your getting an inaccurate reading then i would say you inputted the wrong values or not enough of them.

I know how to use the unit and made all the correct calculations. My buddy and I have been using the tech edge unit for over 3 years now. My buddy has been using it for longer.
Its just not a trustworthy device in my opinion. The unit just makes me think someone invented it in their garage and not my R&D went into it.

do all the sensors mentioned have a regular narrow band output? like can all of them replace the stock o2? i need a new o2 sensor and i also need a wide band and if i can get the wideband without having to buy another stock one too it would be coolness

you cannot replace any of your stock o2 sensors with a wideband o2.

You can replace you narrow band o2 sensor with the PLX Devices wide band. The PLX wide bands have a narrow band output as well as the wide band. You do have to do a resistor mod though for the o2 heater circuit so the CEL light won't come on.

can you ellaborate on the resistor mod aspect? what resistor? I am ignorant.
EDIT: http://www.zeitronix.com/Products/zt2/zt2.htm this one i just found out has the simulated narrow band output for the stock ecu too... does it require any sort of mod?

I have the M-300 wide band, but I left my narrow band o2 installed and just put another o2 bung in for the wide band sensor. In the PLX instructions this is what they say to do to replace the narrow band.

I would think that it would be about the same for the zeitronix.

You can use the wideband to replace the stock o2. once installed you will use the simulated Narrowband output of the unit and run that to the factory ECU. the Tech edge unit has a simulated output and i am sure most others do as well.
I have no idea why James says you cant, he is wrong, but if you look into the wideband units you will see there are narrowband outputs in most of them.

what you guys think about the AEM uego with gauge?

88566, RE: Wideband Posted by CarbonFiberRST, Apr-21-05 09:30 AM
I think most of them think its garbage... thats what I've heard anyway. I have a friend that runs one and likes it but thats the only wide band he has experience with I think... thats all I know.

I know AMS (company in illinois makes awesome 500HP+ evo's,etc..) uses the AEM uego with gauge and EMS unit and love it.

I'm about to install a the AEM uego so I'll let you know. But extremers has one (it's in the review section) and likes it. I think it may not be as versatile as some other widebands (can't log egts) like the zeitronix but it works well. I know I had the zeitronix and with the incar display, it was kinda hard to see your exact readings since it keeps shifting since it is all digital, although the recall feature was helpful. It also has imputs for egt and boost, but I have these gauges already so that effect my discision in selling it.
Anyway, I like how the AEM has the blinking lights that goes along with the digital display, but again, it is more expensive, has less features. But I love how it is more compact like a small gauge.

Yeah Martin at AMS uses it and gets very good results from it. Then again AMS is authorized seller and installer of AEM standalones. AMS is a very trustworthy company....they do a lot for us chicago guys so i dont doubt their point of view. Call them up and ask.

ehhh im leary of them. my friends bro has a 95 GS-T and had them build an engine for him. well he was only running on 3 cylinders after a while so he had a different shop rebuild it this time, the guy found a piston pin lock missing, and the pin dug 2 big grooves in the cylinder wall. he said they had to have forgotten to install it, because he didnt find it anywhere.

Sorry I was misreading the post. I said that you cannot replace a stock o2 with a wideband, but what i didn't mention was that you can use the narrow band output.
I dont like the idea of doing it but you can. Just add another bung.

Yeah, I use the AEM UEGO gauge type wideband, and i like it, for the most part..It doesnt really have any logging capability, which if you run this with a stock computer, your sort of out of luck there..Now that i have the megasquirt, the logging feature doesnt matter now. The gauge itself looks great and matches my Autometer sport comp gauges almost perfectly, so i like that. This gauge is expensive for what you get though, as there are MANY other cheaper options out there. As far as I can tell, the gauge is accurate within .1-.2 AFR, as it was always around 14.7:1 when it ran on the stock ECU, during closed loop control.
I'm also using this wideband with the Megasquirt for closed loop feedback control. It's been working very well, and the MS seems to keep really close to the target A/F voltage during closed loop.
One thing i also want to mention, I tried to use this gauge's simulated analog narrowband output to run the stock ECU, instead of the stock o2 sensor. The gauge's calibration screw was set to the narrowband output on it's white wire, and connected it to the o2 sensor wire at the stock ECU. The motor/ECU did NOT like this at all, and ran very, very bad, and extremely lean. I know it's possible to do this with these widebands, so I dont know if it was an issue with this gauge, or that the ECU just doesnt like the type of signal the AEM puts out for narrowband.

ya i want it cuz it matches my sport comp gauges perfect and i just want a simple wideband to tune my s-afc with until i go MSnS

did you do that one resistor mod mentioned above? or would that have any effect?
|
88585, RE: Wideband Posted by XtremeRS, Apr-21-05 06:27 PM
Resistor mod is just for the CEL code for not having a o2 sensor hooked up, for the sensor heater circuit. That has nothing to do with the actual signal going to the computer for A/F ratio. o2 sensor signal wire is a white wire, which would be connected to the AEM gague's white output wire. I just unplugged my stock o2, then tapped into the stock white wire at the ECU, from the AEM..

I'm not sure why more people don't run the Zeitronix Zt-2, it's the shiznit hehe. I guess maybe it's just like the new kid on the block, and everyone's scared to go talk to him. Buy the optional EGT probe, and it'll monitor and datalog that as well. It all looks to cool on the also optional pimp lcd screen.

A vote for the Zietronix Zt-2.
A few of the guys in the local AZSRT-4 club run it and it's a pretty nifty little unit so I had my buddy order one so I can install it first hand and see if I like it (which I'm sure I will). Datalogging (9 hours worth) and multiple inputs make it quite versatile (boost, EGT, wb-O2, ect). Now to find a place to mount it....
