88087, A GOOD DAY for spark AND clutch !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by tim97rs, Apr-10-05 10:08 AM
well, i found the problem... sort of.... my MSD tach adapter. or the harness. or the MSD unit itself. i unplugged the tach adapter and MSD from the factory ignition harness and plugged the factory back together so there is NO msd in the loop at all. She fired right up... sop i dont know if its the MSD, the tach adapter or the harness(what i inspected looked clean).
i have not yet tried to plug just the MSD into the factory ignition harness without the tach adapter yet, but i need to since all my important tach referance signals come off the MSD tach referance like my 034EFi and my TT and remote start. (which actualy might be a good thing for a while since i need to get 300 miles on my new clutch before i open up on it....which segways nicely into the other part of this beinig a good day.!

i was able to adjust my clutch master cyl rod and get my engage/disengage up off the floor to a more respectable place inthe travel...SO
i now can give a full 2 thumbs up for my Southbend clutch set-up! a very nice system with factory feel with "get down to business" performance!

a big THANK YOU to all you guys who threw in input and help! this sight is truly a great place to be...

a_millr_76 - i will PM you about the senosrs. do you want the new ones or the used ones???

wow. I was under the impression that was one of the 1st things you tried. Or would have tried. Either way, alls well that ends well. Get a Crane igntion. Have never ever had any problems with mine. I know there are several users on here who have had bad MSD experiences.

No!! why would you think that? that would be common sense...if we had common sense... would we spend as much $$ on our cars as we do...???
actualy, i didn't even think about unhooking from that point because when you plug the jumper into the MSD set-up, its suppopsed to be just like factory, by-passing all MSD. guess i was wrong on that...

by the way, what is the preferred crane setup for our cars?

booya.

copied from my instruction manual:
The Crane Cams TRC-2 is an accessory for HI-6DI2
systems that provides driver-adjustable retard. The TRC-
2 can provide continuous timing retard (0° - 20°), retard
using a switch (0° - 20°), or retard proportional to boost
(up to 4° per psi) on supercharger or turbocharger installations
(with an optional boost sensor, not included).

Good to hear. I'd add the whole 'i'da checked that first', but everyone knows hindsight is 20-20.

My MSD on my cougar crapped out, too. I bought a new one for $176, my dad sent mine back and had it fixed for $25. However, my brother told me yesterday that the truck just stopped running for now reason. Damn MSD ignitions...
