Ok so i was reassembling my car after installing new cam seals. The shop that assembled it the first time put in too much anarobic (sp) sealer and it sealed up the ports used to get oil to the seals. It was a hard crusty fucking mess. So i cleaned it all up looked in the manual and it told me to TQ the outside bolts to 21 ft/lb's and the inside bolts to 107 ft/lbs. I was toqueing down the bolt on the farthest intake side on the cam endcap. I had the TQ wrench set to about 25-ish. Well i had went around with a regular wrench and got them tight then i was going to get them to spec. I wanted to do it evenly so i didn't warp anything. Well the front bolt was at spec and the wrench just stopping applying pressure. It just spun freely like it should. WEll i went to finish the rear and i had only went thru two 1/2 turns and the bolt just snapped!!! Well its far enough down in the guide there is no way to get a pair of vicescripts on them or anything thing else. I didn't try needle nose pliars. It was about 10pm and i had been tooling since 10am. Luckily the endcap has some extra room and is not tight on the bolt. I figure you can tap it out.. but that would remove the guide there. Hopefully someone here can help me out and give me some advice so i know how to approach the situation tomorrow morning. I really appreciate the help tonight!

What bolts were you torquing to 107 ft lbs again? Head bolts? I'm lost.

I can't think of anything that needs 107 ft lbs in our motor.
If your talking about the bedplate, the "outside" are torqued to 20 ft pounds and the "inside" are torqued to 55 ft pounds.

To answer your question, after 100+ lbs of torque, i dont think a tap would do it. If it does, then kudos to you but if it doesnt, i'd think about drilling it out and put in a helicoil.

You might try using an easy out on it. Despite all the time I've spent working on Daisy the past two weeks, I'm not able to offer much more help than that. Just be careful, Aaron!

I think you should invest in a new chiltons or something. Use good judgement when looking at the size of the bolt compared to the torque rating. are you sure it wasnt 107 in/lb

the cam caps arent torqued to 25 ft/lbs. i forget the correct number, but 25 sounds high. they are easy to break.

I believe it is actually 20 on the bolts on the end and somewhere around 15-16 on the ones in the middle. They do seem easy to break, I used some of my leftover ARP moly lube and used a couple less ft-lb on each bolt.

please guys, have some real numbers when talking about torque specs.
the big (10mm head) outside bolts are 20 ft lbs. and the small (8mm head) inside bolts are 9 ft lbs.

Drill a hole in it for an easy out, then take a punch bigger then the hole you drilled and give the broken bolt a good swat with a hammer to break the bolt threads away from the threads it's broke in. Dont hit it too hard though. Put the easy out in and back it out.

We took care of it yesterday. Went to the hardware store bought a titanium drill bit and an extractor. Drilled a hole down about an inch into the bolt and hammered that extractor in there to snag the inside of the bolt, came right out after that.

According to the overhaul manual, 21 ft.lbs is the torque spec I've read for the outer cam cap bolts.
