the alternator in my car just went out, i looiked through the chilton's manual and it doesn't look to tuff. can i do it myself or should i say screw it and let someone else deal with it?

mang, i just finished a complete engine rebuild on a gsx for the first time by myself. go for it!

Opti I replaced it a few weeks ago. Not that hard once you recognize what to do from the chilton's manual. Its hard but match up the pics with the car. That manual sux. YOu gotta remove the splash guard and thats really it. Just loosen the alternator belt pulley and a few other bolts chilton says and put it back in. It may take 2 people beacuse someone's gotta hold the heavy alternator while someone screws it in, but yes you can do it, me knowing nothing got it done in a few hours.
