87188, Write up on the injector hump in intake mani
Posted by LeJeune123, Mar-16-05 09:50 PM
I have been searching but haven't found the damn post yet, so I was wondering if someone could remember which one it was in for me. I am bringing my intake mani to the shop and would like to have the write up just in case they need it. Thanks, sorry I suck at searching.lol

most likly gasket matching/portnpolish on the manifold....You can remove the humps, not entirely though.

I wouldn't let anybody port anything if I felt that they needed a writeup on how to do it... But that's just me.

When I did my manifold, I just knife edged the bosses, instead of leaving them round. Little better airflow. If that's what you're talking about.

The guys I am getting to do this have been building engines for 40 years. I just wanted to get a little rundown on the procedure so I wouldn't feel so stupid if they couldn't understand what I was looking for because I suck at explaining things. The process in which I am looking for is the one that when you P&P the intake mani you shave down your injector humps.

I just remembered I had this...but I hate to post it because I don't know who to give credit to. I saved it a while back in case it dissapeared or I forgot were to look for it. If anyone knows who did this write up please tell me.

I bet this is what you're talking about. There is no write up for this. I think if you explain what you're talking about to any qualified machinist, they will be able to do this. It's not rocket science. That's why having to explain it to someone who is supposed to be a "professional" makes this such a scary thought. It's not apparent in my diagram (that I just whipped up in PS from the only picture I have of my manifold before I installed it), but the machined injector "hump" is also flattened out before the edge is machined down to almost a point at the trailing edge.

I'm thinking you would just tell the shop you would like them to machine the humps down to a lower profile that removes the material there, but not so much as would weaken the integrity of the injector mounting. You can see in the picture that the edge is almost knife-like, however the humps are simply ground flat across the top at that level.

DR1665, Thank you for the perfect advice and the pics I needed. I didn't know exactly what I was looking at when I told him about it but now I can easily describe it. The guy should know what I am talking about I just wanted to know incase I couldn't explain it correctly . Thanks, and points to you!
