hey guys. i had some problems on my way home tonight. i pulled out of school and my car stuttered and jerked in first gear @ about 4500 RPMs. wtf? second gear same thing @ about 4000 RPMs. third gear same thing. after about a mile the CEL came on. car idles fine and runs fine if RPMs are kept below 3500. i got home and did the magic key dance. it threw codes 12 54 11 55. i know 12 & 55 are normal and 11 is crank reference signal or timing belt slipped a tooth (don't think its the belt cuz i just replaced it about 2000 miles ago). WTF is 54? i can't find that code listed anywhere. i recently replaced the cam sensor but not the crank sensor (had problems starting). could this be part of the problem? any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

by the way its a '96 gs 2.0 n/t with 99,000 on it

thanks. thing is i just replaced the cam sennsor. could this be caused by a different sensor or do i have a problem with the ecu?

When my crank sensor went bad, it caused me to get a no cam signal at pcm CEL. Check your wiring and everything with your cam sensor first though just to be sure.

thanks for your help sonik. i checked my wiring for the cam sensor, all is good. i replaced the crank sensor today. what a pain in the a**. seems to be runing fine. no more low hesitation, but it acts like a rev limiter at 6500 RPMs. i have a MSD box installed with the rev limit set to 7000. do you think that the factory rev limit could be causung this? would it still engage even with an after market box?

I'm not sure about the rev limiting thing. Make sure both sensors are securely plugged in and if you haven't already done so, reset your ecu by taking off the negative cable from your battery for about 15 minutes. It'll make the ecu go back to it's original settings so then it can "relearn" everything with your good sensor in. It's worth a shot. Let us know if that fixes it.

i disconnected the battery while i was installing the sensors, so my ecu reset. forgot about my amp capacator at first, but i eventually remembered and discharged it . cel lite went off, and car seems to be running fine other than the 6500 hesitation. i set my rev limiter to 6000 and ran the hell out of her today. couldn't detect any problems and it ran great. hopefully the new sensors did the trick. not too expensive of a fix. did you have to buy a harness adapter for your sensors? the replacement sensors had a flat pin type and the factory were round. damn adapter cost as much as the sensor!! thanks again for your help. this site has been a great help!!

Yeah...I had to get the new wiring pigtail for mine too. That was the biggest pain in the ass. Hardly enough room to solder the wires together.
