87162, AF/X Computer Posted by Eggies, Mar-16-05 10:51 AM
I am not sure if this is old news or not, but I just wanted to let all of you owners of the 2nd gens, that aren't a 97 know that AF/X is in the process of working on their ECUs for the 98s and 99s... I just got off the phone with one of the guys there asking when we can expect it.... he said in the next few weeks... They will, just like the 97, be available in a street, and race only version... Just FYI...

I wonder if this has anything to do with how many people are going MSnS and can do the same thing themselves? Hmmm...

All I have to say about the AF/X is, very simple mod that shows awesome results, but be prepared to wait 6 MONTHS to recieve it back, just make sure you have a spare ECU. I loved mine, but MSnS is the way to go for the money, I'm still reading though, so much to learn. I love it. Going :nuts ~Jeffo
Hey, have you seen my new tail lights? Yeah, cool huh, get used to looking at them.

Thanks for the update Eggies, but with the popularity of the Megasquirt system growing, they might have waited too long.

I wish they make one that works with the atx to raise the rev limit. I wish they would also get rid of the code for the egr circuit.

If they would have come out with it a year or 2 ago, i would have bought one. but why bother now since we have the MSnS? thats what im gonna do towards the end of the year.

That is news to us.
We have not been working on any 98-99 computers, nor do we have any plans to work on 98-99. Sales of 97 computers have not been strong enough to warrant the investment of the time and money. As it stands now, we have no plans to build a 98-99 computer, unless sales of 97's become stronger.

I have to say that my AF/X ecu took quite a while to make it'a way over to me, but when I got it, it was worth the money. There are so many people who have a 97 mtx and don't even know that there's a race ECU out there for their car, otherwise, they wouldn't waste their money on something like the Venom-400 or the Jet chip, which both don't do jack. If only there was a way to let them know it was out there with better marketing, in other places. I have had my Eclipse for 5 years now, and if I would have known about the Af/x, I would have spent $500 on it long ago, it just took me a while to research around and find that there was actually a performance computer for my car, (like finding this web site). Other than that, I know that there would be a ton of people who would invest in an AF/X ecu. Not everyone knows how or wants to learn to run and wire MSnS, the AF/x is a very simple install and takes no skill whatsoever. I think it's just a matter of getting the word out about the AF/x, that's all. MSnS is the way I am going for sure, but the AF/X is just the next best thing for the average *import dude*. I was very impressed when I got my AF/X, but then I learned some things and am moving on. Think about how many guys with 2gnt's were mad because there was only one for 97's. Just my 2 cents, I think it would be a good investment if there was better marketting for it. I myself have a 97 and am in no way trying to benifit from saying this, but I think it would be a good idea. Like I said, just my 2 cents. ~Jeffo

It would be cheaper for you to make harness conversion kits so that 98-99 people could plug in a 97 ECU and you wouldn't have to be concerened with reprogramming them.

i know that if they made it for the 98 i would buy it, but i agree with the guy above that said they need some marketing.
i was one of the dumb mother fuckers that paid $300 for the Venom 300... luckily i sold it a year later for $280 to some stupid ass honda civic owner.
oh well...

lol, it's been known about all over the avenger/sebring/2gnt forums. All ya had to do is ask :)
Btw, it will work on any ob2 non turbo eclipse, but you have to repin the connectors (which isn't hard)

The point is people have to seek out the forums then seek out the information. You can open any "Import tuner" style magazine out there and see the VENOM unit. Now we all know it doesn't work but they get some schmoe to buy one all the time just by having it listed as available for our vehicles. And trust me, when you get that bite in the ass that says "No, you can't just grab a turbo from a junkyard car and swap it to yours." which is what MOST OF US thought when we bought our cars then you start grasping for straws hoping to get some HP to your silly little NEON engine.
If AFX had this listed in magazine ads available through NOPI and shit then they'd sell a fuckload more.

Are we anywhere close to even throwing around the possibility of doing this yet?
