i've already searched for this question. ok i installed the cams with the two holes on the cams facing up? all the timing marks are lined up? but it idles very badly and sounds like it's missing. how do the dowell pins on the cams supposed to be? and also my vacum at idle is at like 10-12 is it supposed to be at that with those cams? by the way i have the crower stage 2's. any help would be really appreciated. sorry if it may be a stupid question

Hey, I have Crower 2's. You install them just like the stock ones, intake dowel up and exhaust cam dowel down. is your timing right? Did you set it a half a notch back from top dead center on the crank when installing the t-belt?? Mine loped a little, but if it sounds like it's missing, I would check things over. Also, you need to dyno your car to get the cam gears set right where you need them. Do you have adjustable cam gears??

yes i have adj. cam gears, all the timing marks are lined up! it idles really badly. it has a real bad lope to it. why would i need to set the timing mark half a notch back on the crank? but to answer your question no i didn't, lined it up. thanks for the help

Ok, when you are putting the timing belt on, you set the crank a half a tooth before top dead center, and the timing marks on the cam gears in the correct spot as well, you start putting on the belt at the crank, around the water pump, around the idler pulley, areound the cam gears, and then around the timng tensioner. You then torque the timing tensioner to spec and tighten down the bolts to the hydraulic tensioner while the troque is applied. Crank the motor over twice to see if the marks still line up right. You set it back a 1/2 a tooth for when the belt fully on, usually the crank moves foward a little and lands dead on TDC. If it's idling really bad, I would bet it's a timing issue. Have you gotten a check engine light?? If you havn't, you might just need to tune the cams better. That's all I can think of.

Not the dowels, the holes in the cams themselves. Stock cams have a hole drilled in the top facing side, so that when the motor is at Cyl1 TDC, you can use a tool to hold the cam and break the camgear bolt free.

crower2's give the motor less vac. therefore the computer adds more fuel because to compensate. you need to either space the throttle butterfly open a hair or get an afc. I spaced the tb open more and it helped.

Yeah, I had to up this just a hair on mine, nothing too much though. I love my crower 2's, well, when my car was running. *soon now*

well guys thanks for the info! called crower and they said the intake dowell pin goes down and he exaust doewll pin goes up. still trying to fix the problem. i have an sc4431 turbo could this be the problem that it's just to big as soon as i give it a little bit of gas it starts to go away. but the idle is really bad. what else could it be cam sensor, map sensor?

...making the two cam holes face up, right?

nope there off! brian at crower said to forget about the holes for the tool just to get the dowell pins right so that's what im going to do tomarrow it's been a long and frustrating day.

Because Crower used the same blanks for Neon and Eclipse 420A cams, the holes if put facing up your engine will be out of time.

Set the timing by the three timing marks and you will be good.

What other work do you have done? Head work?
