ok.... well turby n i had alot of fun with this thing last night(sarcastic)...... well to make a long story short we got the car to idle... now it idles fine for about 30 sec at 18hg worth of vacume....... after that it drops to 5hgs constant and of course runs/idles like hell..... all the compression in every cly is good 180-210 (10.5-1 comp) , oil pressure is good......getting plenty of fuel.. and timming is 0*'d out.... so we were thinking a vac leak...did the old propaingas trick.. and came up with nothing.... (that we could reach anyway)... so i decide to take off the intake mani today to drop in some new gaskets n' reseal everything... as i took off the runners of the intake mani... i noticed that they all (all cly runners) had oil in em....not much but enouph to notice. now before u guys jump to leaky guides and seals...check this... this head has 0 miles on it.... i just had it resurfaced and 2mm oversized valve put in... new seals , springs , guides.. and had them machined flush...... i even paid the x-tra cash for the flowbench... (a nice 46% over stock)
so after hearing my rant....... any sugestions? did i fuck up the head gasket maybe? (hate to think that)

Jake

Do you have your PCV still hooked up? If so thats where the oil is coming from. I dont see how oil can come from your head into you intake runners. I could be wrong, but Ive never heard of it.

PS- Sorry Im not a pro, but I am old, lol.

I agree. The PCV will let oil into the intake. Make sure it is good, otherwise a vacuum can pull oil out of the valve cover and right into the intake.

Check the egr system.

best time so far 14.3 @ 101.1mph(no traction)

When I rebuilt my head, I had oil in my runners too, I figured it was from the PCV, if you had a catch can, it probably wouldn't get in there, But I did have quite a bit of fresh oil in there. :scratch. I wonder if something wasn't right.

i was thinkin that too jake, we were fuckin around with the pcv alot and id bet it did suck in some oil so thats why you have oil in the manifold.

like he said, the motor has solid compression but just doenst pull strong vac at idle so we were both leaning toward a vac leak (likely the manifold) because i remember a very vivid whisping sound when i put my head back there at idle.

time for new manifold gaskets, new pcv (or the catch can idea i was tellin you about, might as well do it and keep that nice new head clean) new spark plug seal on that one (you know which one im talking about, cyl 3) and a leak down test with the manifold off to tell if it could possibly be a leak in the valvetrain parts or seals.

also i got the money for my smog, so hook me up with a paypal addy or something so i can relay that money to peter.

thanks again brutha :thumbsup, we'll get your bitch figured out

arent those compression numbers kinda low for haveing higher compression pistons? i thought those were the healthy numbers of a stock engine?

You can have oil in your intake runners if you have a leak in your turbo and it is blowing through the piping and into the intake manifold. Also did you check all your vacuum lines and your vaccum reservoir underneath the intake manifold?? Maybe you forgot to run the lines going to and from the vacuum reservoir. Use some air intake cleaner and spray the throttle body nicely, and clean and check your idle sensor on the throttle body. Check, double check, and then check it all over it again.

Same problem when I pulled my intake, fresh oil on the gasket surface between the top and bottom manifold. I have to believe it's the PCV, don't see where else it'd come from. Possibly a time to bring back the 'Pics Where You Mounted Your Catch Cans' post :shrug
