86610, Got everything off, how do I do the rest of this?

Okay, I got the head off and the wire harness, ya know, basically I have just the block and tranny in the car. I want to take just the block out without the tranny. I have the front motor mount out along with all of the timing components and the timing cover, I have the starter out and can see the flywheel, is there any way to get to those bolts to take the flywheel off of the clutch to get just the block out?? Do I need to take the mount off of the tranny and lower it or something?? This is the first time I have dealt with pulling out the bottom end for a rebuild and want to know the easiest way of doing it. Thanks for all of the help so far though.

Hey, have you seen my new tail lights? Yeah, cool huh, get used to looking at them.

there is an access plate to get to the clutch and starter plate. You can get each of the bolts off the holds the clutch to the starter plate. You need the turn the crank by hand to get to each one of them but it can be done. Then you have to remove all of the bolts from the block to the trans. I'm pretty sure thats the gist of it.

If I were you I would just pull the axels out and take the tranny out with the bottom end. Its much easier that way to get everything out in my opinion.

That's what I was originally going to do, but I decided to just take the blcok out and not deal with the axles. At this point, I think it would be easier to just take out the block. I was guessing to take off those bolts, but how would I torque those down right when I reinstall it?? I can barley get to it with a wrench from an angle. Is there any other way besides taking out the tranny? Thanks for the help so far.

I couldn't get a torque wrench in there either when I reinstalled it. I just put what i felt was roughly the correct amount of torque to them.

Ok, when you back out the bolts, they hit the back of the shield, there's no way you can get those bolts out of there. Is there any other way to do it?? I'm stuck. I read the write up by Corbin on how to take off the axles, and that looks like a pain in the ass. How does everyone that pulls the motor without the trans do it?? HELP ME!!! I need to get this sucker out.

Through the start hole, is there another place to take them out from?? I'm trying to take out the bolts that are connected to the flywheel so I can take the block out and not take out the tranny.

Take off that plate at the bottom of the bellhousing, I loosen them from there each time. Use a short 18mm socket with a fairly thin ratchet to loosen the 4 bolts (driveplate to flywheel). To get to each of the next bolts use the same size wrench (or 3/4") on the next bolt in line (to turn the crank), you can about see 2 bolts at a time from the bottom.

O yeah, I put a folded rag in between the ratchet and the oil pan so i dont scratch ma oil pan.

yes, the plate at the bottom was the access plate I was talking about.

Ah, I feel much better now, I'll bust into that first thing Monday evening. I see what you guys are talking about. One last thing, would it be a good idea to take out the crossmember? Thanks.
