86522, what camshafts for 420a turbo? and where to get.

well ive decided my next step for my 97 RS will be some good race cams . stage 1 or two im not sure. i dont much care about gas mileage or idle to much. my mods so far are just all upgraded wiring for whole car , stock 420A motor - all emissions components have been eliminated except PCV valve ,no egr or EVAP or anything of that sort. custom turbo kit boosting 7 psi. straight downpipe running right out side of front bumper with no muffler or anything . and that is it besides FMU,fuel pump and all that , but i want a set of good cams that will increase power by alot. what brand and where can i get them? i dont wanna spend too too much of course but i do want somthing good that will help alot. any ideas?

i bet you car sounds like shit.

also, most cams arnt going to give you alot of power.

i have crane 14's on my car. turbo grind. i dont think i noticed any power gain from them.

Get crower stage 2 cams, stage 1 you will not notice a difference and stage 3 are for drag. Stage 2 are perfect I run them on my turbo setup and there is a definite improvement. You can see the difference just looking at them next to a stock cam. There is a deffinite and noticeable power increase. You will also need aftermarket springs and retainers. Also up your idle to 1100rpm's or you may have a problem with your car stalling when you drive and then put the car in neutral because of how aggressive the cams are. You can adjust the throttle cable a little, or turn the catch screw in more on the throttle body.

they have alot of overlap. so better have adj. cam gears if you go with crowers. overlap isnt good for turbo.

Yeah, from what i've read, cams (as has been stated before) dont necessarially increase power, they just move your power up or down your power curve... Tho i have seen a few that boast a few hp increase

I run stock cams on my 420A.

There isn't one set of aftermarket 420A cams out there that I like... the specs on all of them suck ass. :)

Not to mention the huge overlap on all of them as already mentioned...

With a turbo motor, just runt he stock cams... invest the money somewhere where it matters, either bottom end if you haven't done it already, or on a good fuel system!

My stock cams flow just fine as dandy at 28psi... ;)

Well I had been driving at 25psi... but then my new turbo parts came, and after rebuilding the turbo and going for a drive...
I got a little spirited and saw 28psi in 3rd before I backed off...lol

The new turbo parts workj a little better than the old parts... :)
Time to test out the boost controller me thinks...

Nice, I have crower stage 2's on my motor ont he 2.0 setup they made a difference but it could hav been the ported head I installed too. I will be using the same head and cams on my 2.4l. Should I get adjustable cam gears to get rid of the overlap? (sorry to kind of HiJack)

best time so far 14.3 @ 101.1mph(no traction)

Yes, without a doubt get cam gears and remove some of the overlap...

You want to increase power? Save your money on the cams (stock seems to be good enough) and put it into head work. Take advantage of that forced air! Let it really breathe.
