Subject says it all. My car idles like total shit. i start it up, it goes to 3k, hangs out there for a second, then drops to 2k, where it very seldom drops below ever. every time i hit the clutch when cruising it does the same thing.
My cruise control also doesnt work, and i know the wires the go to the positive battery post are really shitty, plus the positive connection to the alternator is pretty shitty too.
I cleaned the throttle body and iac, both look like new pretty much. i also tested the resistance of the iac, and it was normal so i dont think thats my problem.
Think there's any connection to shitty wiring?

prob not anything to do with shitty wiring but you should fix that anyways. Check for broken vac hoses. Your pcv hose might be fucked up and sucking in too much air. Just a few easy things to check...

i just had this problem and it was my intake manifold gasket. Take some carb cleaner and spray it on all your intake connections, if the idle rises, theres a leak there.

they're all new gaskets, just had head work done. this pisses me off, nothin like sitting at a light and idling at 2500rpms. goddam car

Don't want to sound like a simpleton (though I may be one) but, are you sure that you don't have an intake leak? You just did head work so this leaves open the possibility that there is a leak. I would also suspect the IAC but you say that is alright. Possibly linkage hanging up? Just food for thought

even though they are new gaskets though doesnt rule out a leak there... i would check with some carb cleaner around the mating surfaces as well. If you need a new iac, i have one ill sell cheap

how much would you want for the iac, shipped to 48035. im pretty sure its not my problem, but if i cant get it figured out tomorrow im going to start replacing things.
