86044, New Head for my FP3065 project
Posted by SilverBullet20g, Feb-15-05 01:04 PM
Man this is taking forever...

Ok so I bought a new head from scambay a while ago for the GS because the one on there is stock except for the headgasket. There is no way that stock head will handle 30 psi and xxxwhp (no bench racing for me) from the Forced Performance 3065 turbo.

So I took the head to the best machine shop (Dan Hall) in Portland. They already built/bored/balanced my block a while ago, so it was time for the head. After a week and a half of waiting they did:

Complete full race port and polish
3 angle valve job with swirls for better air flow
stainless steel exhaust valves
bronze valve guides
All new seals and gaskets from Satan
Crane valve springs
Drill and tap oil galleys
Gude re-grind cams: I know, I should of bought crane/crower but they came with the head. Dan Hall's checked them out and measured the lift:
Stock cams: 160, 188
Gude cams: 184, 215

I dropped the head off today at Torquefreaks and they are going to put it on with ARP head studs, New Timing belt, Tensioner, Water Pump, EGR block off plates and a shiny new powdercoated valve cover.

Dan Hall is also porting and polishing the intake manifold to match the ports on the head, that should be done in a day or two

After this gets done.. John Reed (the best tuner, that I know of) will finish up with the AEM EMS tuning and the rest is fabrication for the exhaust manifold...
So much for paying bills this month...

I hope it's ready for the dyno day:

Yeah sure I will do all of the porting and balancing myself

edit: I already pulled the engine and trans for rebuild and installed the turbo kit in my garage...That's not enough for you. It's not like I could move the car out of TorqueFreaks shop (since it's not driveable) in this crappy weather and do it in their parking lot.

all i saw was dave hall did your porting and this "They already built/bored/balanced my block a while ago" unless you're a machinist, i dont see how you could balance anything...

doesnt matter though bro, not really. to each his own :thumbsup

How can you beat 3 hours of labor for all of that crap to get installed?

The machine shop only charged 210 for the port and polish.

I was talking about the Head, timing belt, water pump, tensioner pulley, head studs, etc...
