What's happening fellas? Well after pulling my engine last weekend, I found out the front oil galley plug was too small and that's what was leaking oil. So I figured since the engine was out I might as well paint it too. So I'm wondering if you guys have any advice when it comes to painting the block and head. Just put down some primer and paint it or what?

You dont need to primer it. Just use a hightemp paint.

and clean it real good first.

i used high temp primer, paint and then clear...
turned out real shiny!
i got mine degreased though too

DAMN!! You went the 3 extra miles for that. Id like to see it if you have pics. You dont wax it, do you? lol

The biggest thing to painting is prep work. Spend yoru time cleaning, sanding, etc.

Then mask the deck, and anything you don't want painted. Make sure to cover bolt holes, hole for crank sensor, etc. If you shoot paint into a threaded hole, you better have a tap ready to chase the threads.

Ok guys will do. Thank you for the advice. I'm thinking I might go the few extra yards though and do what Mike did. I'll just spray the block down w/ brake cleaner first to get the crap off of it.

AH HAH! GRACIAS MIKE! TOLD YA IT LOOKS PEEEERTY BLAIR!

Dissasembled entire engine down to bare parts.
Soaked all parts in OilEater dissolved 50/50 in water for several hours.
Rinsed, scrubbed, soaked, and dried with compressed air.
Masked all sealing surfaces.
No primer.
Spraypainted with 1200* Engine enamel (1600* is too chalky and requires baking).
Second and third coat on some parts.

I painted my block in November of 2004 when I did my rebuild. Its pretty dirty now becasue I have an exhuast leak due to the gasket that goes between the manifold and downpipe. Its blown and I'm lazy.

Holy crap degree.

primer hoods > painted hoods

thats what my block looked like when i had it degreased, i wish i wouldnt have painted it now and just cleared it. then you risk rust though :( oh well, black is nice still :)
