There is a sqealing coming from the engine. It goes away after about a minute. At first I thought it was the belts, but it's not because it is coming from the RIGHT side of the engine. It sounds like it could be coming from the tranny. Is that even possible? One thought that came to mind is that when I was putting in the new engine, about 1/4qt. of manual tranny fluid leaked out. Could for that minute or so there isn't sufficient lubercation, but after it warms up it is ok?

Any thoughts?

Probably your throwout bearing. Did you replace it, I'm assuming your m/t. Oh and the tranny side is the left side.

If you are looking down at the engine from the front of the car, its at the right...sorry for the confusion

Yes, I replaced the throwout bearing. The clutch(seemingly) works fine.

I don't see how I could have installed the throwout bearing wrong...it only really is able to be installed one way.

Are there any other possibilities for the squeal? How about my suggestion...is that even possible?

I plan to its just that I noticed that when moving the car from the driveway to the street...then it went away. Gotta get to the dealership.

Do you think that is the cause for this squeal? Has this occurred before with slightly low manual tranny fluid?

i dont know but theres only one way to find out

Did you pack the throwout bearing with the appropriate grease per the instructions before installing it?

I put a little bit on because I thought it would be better than just metal-to-metal, but I didn't "pack" it. Shit...

I would also like to add that when I press in the clutch pedal, the shrill goes away (when engine is cold).

From this description, I think that its the throwout bearing that you're hearing.

when filling up the tranny with fluid through the reverse switch sensor, will it overflow when it is full?

I know when its full it will spill out. You cant overfill it unless you try.

Even when filling it through the reverse sensor hole it can overflow? Or can it only overflow when filling it the traditional way through the driver's side wheelwell?

yes its designed that way so you cant overfill it.

It's definitely not your tranny ... although you may want to fill just b/c you spilled some out - it wouldn't squeal, it would be worse than that. Probably the throw-out bearing as mentioned or maybe a bearing in the hub assembly. The have sealed bearings in them, and when they wear, they can squeal. Does it do when your sitting at idle? If so, then it's not the hub. Good luck.

Yeah, I am pretty sure it is the TO bearing. I did add more fluid to the tranny, but I am almost certain I added too much, so I need to unplug the rubber fitting in the back to let some drain out and level off.
