Alright, here's the dilema. After reading about the MP 60mm TB and the addition of aluminum to the intake manifold to be able to port it out to a full 60mm, I got to thinking. Would JB Weld be a more cost effective alternative to the addition of Al?
I've worked with it before, and it seems very capable, but I'm worried that its going to fly off when I start dremeling away at it, leaving me with a gaping hole.
Track day is soon (10 days) and my car msut be operational by then! Thanks for your help!

You better watch you'll blow the welds on your intake. HA HA! Just kiddin. Anyways, jb is stronger than what most people give credit, I put it on my trans when I busted a hole through it, and it worked great. I think that it would be worth a try.

JB Weld is really great stuff and I'm using it to hold injector bosses in the intake manifold. It has held up for 3 years. I've used it to fix cracked blocks, broken fittings, whatever. I like the stuff, but I wouldn't trust it in a really critical area. I've always used it to seal up tiny cracks. Depending on how much metal you remove, you might be asking too much from the JB. If you ask it to fill a large area, like a 1/2" strip that is 2 inches long, the failure could be dangerous. If it did cave in and break loose, it would be sucked into the engine and eaten. That would leave you with a sizeable opening in the intake manifold; equivalent to opening the throttle part way. That could be really difficult if it happened at the wrong time. So, it should work, but could really screw you if it didn't hold. I'd probably suck it up and pay for welding.

How much is a reasonable price for the welding? I know close to nothing about that subject, so I couldn't even "talk the talk" with the welder guy.

i really wouldent trust JB weld for that. my experiences from it have left me with the less than satisfied. i feel it is a bit on the brittle side...especially if much pressure is applied. youll need to torque down the bolts decently to prevent any leaks...and that may strip out or crack away at the jb weld. and yeah, having your engine race could really suck in many instances. i agree with corbin and say get it welded like everyone does. unfortunately there isnt a whole lot of "talk". just explain to the guy what your situation is, and that you want aluminum added...its not like ordering a part or something. any qualified welder should be able to add metal...no problem.

Thanks guys! MP is out of stock right now, so I have 2-3 weeks to get my aluminum added. I'll just beat my friends without the new TB.

Be careful with welding it I got mine hot and it warped the surface that connects to the throttle body.

Dude, I port matched my MP TB to my intake without making a hole. You just have to take your time and be real careful. I might have my shit apart sunday and can get you a pic.
