Sup guys.
I bought a spare block from here about 2 weeks ago, and he shippped it using UPS. and it arrived yesterday evening. and truely, when I see the package, I can say it's the WORST packaging I ever SEEN in my life! who is dumb enough to pack it like that. only plastic bag (6 of them) inside a Paper-CART-box and inside is all bedplate, crank, and engine block rolling around across USA to get to my house.

At least he should use some newspaper or some kinda on insulation other then PLASTIC BAGS to protect the block!!! the engine block was like halfway out of the box when it arrived!

Here is some pictures on how it is look like (packaging)



Now this worries me alot. as I took them out... I know this block is all fxxked up from banging and so on.... and I found some damage.

1) On the outide of the block I really do'nt need to worry correct?
2) So I only took pictures of some of the damages I found on surfaces that needs to be flat or etc.

I don't see any scores or damages on the journals of the crank yet, but this is what I found:



On the Bedplate, the MAJOR damage I found is at the crank journals area where the main bearings goes, here are the pictures, and they are at the corning on the LAST bearing surface area:



The above main bearing surface are from the SAME spot, just different angles. (it is the last one to the tranny side)

I didn't find any damage on the surface of the engine block, and the cylinder wall is fine as well.

Now my question is, will my crank still be usable up to this point from visual espection?
And also, is the Bedplate still be USABLE from this visual inspection.

I mean, if from this, you guys already said it's JUNK, then I won't even bring it to the machine shop to check if it's ok... otherwise, I will further bring it to a shop to inspect it!

Last Question: What should I look for from this type of spare engine block? (especially from this type of packaging....)

Sorry for the LONG post, but this really upset me, when I recieve this package!

It doesn,t look good to me. It looks like it has spun a main bearing in the past on that rear main journal not to mention the shipping damage. And as for the crank, I,m not sure if that damage would effect the crank sensor's ability to pick up the signal or not. But it would worry me that it might effect it.

I'm sorry that I couldn't give you a better answer. But you may wont to take it to the machine shop and have the check it out, and see what they have to say.

You can't use the crank. The balance will be off. I wouldn't use the bedplate either.

The entire thing is junk.

Did you ask him how he was going to ship it out at the time of working out the deal? or go through shipping plans? maybe you coulda saved yourself the problem.

either way, anyone who ships a block like that obviously doesn't give a shit about what they were selling or the person they are selling it to. unfortunate, but doesn't surprise me.

Actually, you can file a claim even though you recieved it. Or at least they were going to let me when I recieved something which was damaged (but ended up keeping anyways because it was repairable).

You can still file a claim. Call 1-800-pick-UPS tel them this is how you recieved it. Dont throw out any of the packing. PM me I work for the company and I have some info that might help you out with the claim.

Would I have to do this or him? I asked him about it but he said they wouldn't refund anything for it. The way I packed it was the exact same way it was shipped to me with no problems, I was not expecting this at all.

I have sent so many different items to people on here, and this is the first problem I have come across. Now I'm $200 in the hole because of it. Live and learn I guess. FUCK.

Yeah looks like you got yourself a nice pile of Junk. Atleast the shipper is stepping up his mistakes.

However, the box looks like it was tossed around a bit during transfer. I used to work at UPS as a plane loader, and for boxes over 100 lbs, we would do whatever necessary to get from one place to another. This include rolling, and throwing.

File a claim with UPS and see what happens.

anyway, yes I talked ot the UPS guy, and as soon as they saw all the plastic bags inside, they already said I will not be approved for the claim. coz this is completely the shipper's fault. it's 100% not properly packed, and so the damage is not the UPS' fault.

The above is what the UPS said to me, not me ok!

So seriously, I personally think they are right too. Deifnitely the block will be damaged from the poorly packaged box.

But what I am amazed of is, how can it got to 420a-Tnthewerks without any problem in the beginning with, if he said that's how it was shipped to him! But then, if you use the SAME BOX also, then defintely, coz the box is already wored and out of shape.. you are lucky, you got it OK.

No dude, stop with the fucking packing issue. I spent at LEAST a half an hour putting it all together. And it was SOLID, nothing rubbed, I had them rolled up like a million times so nothing would bang together. Now if UPS decides to fucking roll it around on the ground and drop it everywhere, that's not my fault. I mean come on, it's fucking sticking out of the box! And the box was a perfect cube, now it's a sphere. That's cast iron, and to make those big of gashes in it, it had to of been thrown/rolled everywhere.

And no, that's not the same box, but the packing material is.

I agree with that, those massive gashes in that block had to be caused from some major beating the hell out of it. I was a heat stress reliever (metalurgy advancement field) for a very long time and i would get into the densities of iron, but it would be very hard to understand what i'm talkin about. anyways to make a long story short, I'm talking like some serious throwing it down 10 cemented flites of stairs or sumthin.

I will be curious to see how the block I just shipped to Eclipsemh2k today shows up next Thursday. I wish I had taken pictures of it, it looked that good. We took a pallet, cut it in half lengthwise, then set the block on the pallet. Then we took a board from the other half of the pallet and placed it along the top of the cylinders lengthwise. We used some plastic banding strap to lash it all down good and tight after that. The guys at the dock at work further enclosed the block in thick cardboard, taped it up, then used some 2" nylon strapping to wrap it all up and secure it to the pallet. I really wish I had pictures of it, but its insured for $500 to top it off. Sucks to hear about people buying shit and having it show up beat to hell for lack of proper packaging. (And we can all agree that you don't pack a 140lb engine block in a cardboard box.) Props to the shipper for stepping up to the plate to make things as right as he can.

I've got another block sitting here that I could sell you Gil. It's a 95 that's been bored over .020" already, but it likely needs another .020-.040" due to my #1 Wiseco Marshmallow slapping around when the lock failed. I'd probably do $300 shipped to you. If you can't do any better and NEED a block. This thing is not ideal, but it IS usable.

There was no "wrong" in the first place. I dropped fifty dollars off of my original asking price just so he could afford it. I sent it out to him free of charge just so he could inspect it before he bought it. I told him to just pay $50 to help me cover the shipping charge to him at first (which paypal took a fee out of, but I never told you that). I shipped it out the same day he paypaled me and shipping came to $97. I made sure nothing banged around in the box before shipping it out. Gil was complaining on the shipping price just from that, imagine if I were to ship it like you did. We had no shipping agreements, nothing specified on how or with who.

This is just a case of bad planning. And UPS being gay.
