Got my block back today from the machine shop and damn it looks fine.
They assembled the crank, pistons/rings, and rods and what not for me.
Couple questions for you guys:
1. they degreased the block for me and it looks brand damn new, was wondering if i didnt paint it, if it would rust or not?
2. what do i torque the aem cam gears down to? the 5 bolts around the gears that is.
3. how do i push the crank sprocket back onto the crankshaft?
4. do i put any anerobic sealant around the oil pump when i bolt it back on?
5. is there a torque rating for the oil and water pump?
6. do i put any sealant on the rear main seal?
7. what do i torque the arp headdstuds to?

fuck, i think thats it, lol...
i lost my haynes manual for most of these answers and the shit i bought from ppl off the board here, like the studs and gears, dont have installation insructions.

oh ya, and is the melling oil pumps already primed?

For the crank sprocket I used a 1 1/8 socket and smacked it on there, using a paper clip to guage how far the sprocket was from the oil pump.

Oil pump + anaerobic sealant = yes. 17 ft.lbs.
Water pump is 9 ft.lbs.

No sealant on rear main.

Pack vaseline in the hole where the pickup tube goes onto the oil pump.

If it is to bare metal then yes it will rust. The torque for the cam gears is 15 ft-lbs, i got the same ones. Headstuds i dunno

im pretty sure the ARP head studs get torqued the same as head bolts.

For the torque specs you can go to there web site www.arp-bolts.com. It has the torgue specs listed for all there fasteners.

Hold a paper clip between the oil pump and crank sprocket, that'll get it as close as you need without the surfaces touching.

Im prety sure head studs are a different tq than when using common headbolts...make sure to tap and clean out your headbolt holes and grease with ARP moly lube ONLY to get the right tq measurement

Wipe it down with rubbing alcohol and then hit it with a hi-temp primer and follow up with a hi-temp paint. You really won't need it, but for $10 while you have it in front of you, this is the time to add a little bling factor to the block imo.

We used a copper mallet and a 34mm socket. Then beat the hell out of it. It goes on almost all the way. You should barely be able to get a fingernail between the back of the sprocket and the block. Also, make sure you don't lose the keyway and put that thing on the right direction. Otherwise, you won't keep any timing and you'll have to drill/tap it to pull it back off and do it right.

Did you just grab them from the junk drawer or something? I think they come with a spec sheet that tells you that sort of thing. Much like about 5 minutes with the search would have told you too.

When you bought those ARP head studs, did you just rip them out fo the packaging and throw any paperwork away? I bet you did. Instructions that arrive with hardware supercede all other information. Including what your mother says.

No offense, but if you are asking these kind of questions regarding putting your motor back together at this point in your rebuild process, you should not be rebuilding your motor.

It will rust a little. Spray the whole thing down with WD40 and it wont. If you want to paint it, use 1200* engine enamel.

15 ft/lb. http://www.aempower.com/faq.asp?fid=36&sid=&tid=5 Read the manual that came with the cam gears to be sure.

Put a 32mm socket over it and whack the socket with a hammer. Make sure the lip part faces away from the engine.

Yes, follow the pattern in the 420a overhaul manual.

5. is there a torque rating for the oil and water pump?

Yes, definitely. See overhaul manual or chiltons.

6. do i put any sealant on the rear main seal?

No, but I usually put a paper-thin layer of grey RTV around the outside anyways. It's more important that you install it evenly.

7. what do i torque the arp headdstuds to?

According to the ARP catalog, 190,000psi 11mm studs are torqued to 90 ftlbs with 30-weight oil, or 71 ftlbs with ARP Moly lube (recommended). Check the manual that came with the studs to be sure.

8. Melling oil pump already primed?

Not really. If you want to prime it, squirt a bunch of engine assembly lube in there.
