84726, anyone ever bypass power St. press switch? Posted by 97grnRS, Jan-13-05 05:26 AM
well i need to remove my ac and power steering to make room for my turbo setup. but i once accidentally unplugged my power steering pressure switch and every other day i ate a set of spark plugs up. so its apparent that this switch is necessary for the car to function properly. so is there any way to bypass this switch? its only one wire so i dunno but i def cant risk it retarding my timming and junk if i just take it off. car will run very bad. its a 97 RS.

Not possible. the pressure switch is for idle feedback only and does nothing else.
Try grounding it, or just pulling it and leaving it there - there is absolutely no way it will affect timing at all.

I am not sure that mine was ever connected. I found it near the AC compressor being shredded by the belt one day. It was hanging on by maybe two strands. I just pulled the plug off and zip tied it out of the way.
By the way, you should probably try fixing whatever is causing you to misfire and your plugs to foul. Look elsewhere, as the wire from the PS pump does almost nothing.

Actually, mine had broken off and nothing came of it, so I got rid of it and its running fine.
