when i 1st start it up when its cold it will idle at about 2k then slowly move down to 700-1k.but when i tap the gas insteed of going up and comein right back down it goes up then kinda stays there and slowly moves down,and when im drivein i hit the cluch to come to a stop it stays at 2k and slowly moves down.

it gets a little bit better after i have driven the car a few miles but not much.any help any of you could throw my way would be appreciative but plz im a newbe so dont blast me with all of the lengo as i have no clue what AIC,SAFC ect mean,so plz keep it simple for a newbe to read..Thanks

that's perfectly normal for a cold start. just let your car run for a good 5-10 minutes before taking off.

i know thats norm when its cold,but it will stay like that for 20mils or so b4 it stops it..

Check your throttle cable. Also, make sure the throttle plate is closing all the way when you let off the gas pedel. Have you done any recent mods to the intake? on a cold day(and im CO) mine will got to maybe 1300 but in MY oppinion if it is going to 2k then it should be looked at.

Im not a mechanic though, so you dont have to listen to me. but i have done a lot of work on my intake/mani/tb lately and its been getting down to under 10 degrees here in Colorado and like i said in my opinion it shouldnt rev quite that high.

Edit: Sorry, i just re-read the post and yeah that is kinda normal. i thought you were saying that it was staying at 2k... i would still check your throttle if it still does it after your car is completely warmed up. once mine is warmed up(10mins tops) it goes back to normal and revs up and down freely.

how cold is it? im in MN (high today was -10F) and that is what happens to me everyday. it is just designed so your engine will warm up faster, and not stall by dropping to fast.

its been very warm the past 2 days(70's) but today after i had it out for a good while i saw that it had stoped doing that,but i didnt really keep a eye on when it stoped becouse my GF is all mouth and never shuts up ;)..

i know that when the car is cold it will idle high most cars do,but after a few mins that stops and it drops to about 500-800 and idles there,but after mine has warmed up to where it drops down to 500-800 idle and i rev it up to lets say 2.5k then relese the gas it will come down to 2k then slowly start its way back down to the norm idle insteed of droping like most cars do..

now you could say well maybe its just not warmed up all the way well even when it gets to norm temp of about 1/2 way its still doing it..

my guess is the iac motor. take it out and clean the plunger off with electric parts cleaner. take the tb off and spray out the mounting area with brake clean. it can become caked with carbon due to the egr setup. you may need a new tb gasket also, sometimes it will crack into piecs when pulling the tb off. try that...chris

No need to cross post like this. You could just link to the old thread in the GenForum of mine that you also posted the exact same question...

Go and slightly loosen up the throttle cable at your intake manifold. That was my problem but it may and may not be yours. It would only do it for about 20 minutes and after that it was gone. If you want to check pop your hood and (don't just pull on the throttle cable) you need to go in the car and press the accelerator and let it up slowly then go and check to be sure the throttle plate has completely closed. If you just pull up on the cable it will close completely but sometimes won't when you press the accelerator.
