Okay, I am about to buy the Howell 2.0 performance longrod kit so I can go turbo and was wondering if it was worth it. I have my stock block and it's in great condition. The kit costs $999.95 and I was wondering if it was worth it to have a machine shop build it for me or to just buy a shortblock already built. How much would it cost me if I had a machine shop balance and blueprint and assemble my shortblock if I already had all of the parts? Also, is the longrod kit the way to go? I don't know wht it's cheaper than the normal size rod performance kit, the longrod kit gives you more torque right? Hmmmm? Well, let me hear what you guys think. Also, I might have an AFX RACE UNIT ECU for sale really soon because I'm going turbo after all, I will have to get rid of it right? I tried to go all motor, but I got pissed of and just want to go fast dammit.

You wont have to sell the AFX/R ECU. It will work fine with it but has a tendancy to advance timing far more than the stock ECU.

As far as the machine shops are concerned...just call a few and tell them what you want. They should be able to give some advice or at very least, a quote.

Your run of the mill shop maybe. My suggestion, as stated above, is to look some local guys up in your yellow pages and call around. Talk to them and let them know what you need and with what parts. They can either give you advice or a quote.
