84533, 1995 RS .....taking out engine, want to rebuild ANY SUGGESTIONS??

I have a 1995 Eclipse RS with one mod (cold air intake) and I had a new head, head gasket, water pump, timing belt etc done about 7 months ago. Well one morning the oil lot popped on and then started knocking. I checked the oil and there was oil in it. I added more to get to the line but still had knock.

So im guessing its the oil pump and ofcourse that means the crank needs to be redone, bearing are probably junk and the block (cylinders) will need to be redone.

Im pulling the motor this weekend and will be taking it to a local shop. Ive never had a NON turbo DSM before so Im wondering what stuff I can do for some slight performance out of the RS?

Any help would be GREAT!

thanks all!
Laura

Your block may not be f'd up at all. Your oil pump probably just went out and you might have spun one or maybe even more rod bearings. Bring your crank to the shop, if its scored up or anything, you might have to get it turned and then use oversized bearings. You can get the stock rebuild kit from howellautomotive.com or you could even higher the comp more if you never have an intention of going turbo. just my .02

I doubt it was the oilpump. Typically when they fail, it is rather catastrophically. Rotors break and come apart, etc. Mosy likely the low oil condition resulted in a spun bearing all on its own. Spun bearings cause low oil pressure, which causes more bearings to fail... fun stuff.

Aren't you local to me? If so, i can help you with anything you need done. I'm handy with the 2GNT.

Play nice kids. I'm interested in working on the car, not the girl. I need money, not problems :-)

where in wisconsin. there are a few of us here and more in Chicago.
as for what to do, well that will depend on what you want to acomplish with the car. (keep it stock, turbo, or get as much hp NA as posible)

hehe I'm in madison, and there are a few of us in Milwaukee. if you want to get more power out of it. there are two ways high compression NA (not many of us doing that, and we have not seen super high hp numbers yet) or the low compression and then turbo (this is the more popular route and we have people close to 400whp.) so it all depends on how much you are willing to spend, how much power you want, and how much tuning and maintenance you want to do on the car :)
