84473, What is it going to take? Posted by EclipsedChef, Jan-07-05 09:03 PM
Ive had my car for 5 years now, the all motor setup is awesome but its just not enough. I need a BOV, i need that pshhh. Right now, 160000 miles on a stock bottom end and a rebuilt head. 10:5:1 compression, 55mm tb, stock head, fidanza gears tuned, rebuilt bottom end, complete turbo kit(not sure of which yet), full 2.5 catback with greddy evo muffler and the will to to whatever it takes would be enough for 14's or less correct? I know there is a TON of info on this, but with your experience what are your views on this? Im all about tuning, the harder the better, and that why i figure the 10:5 compression would be the best for me.
With a turbo kit im figuring 1800 dollars, with the rebuild im figuring 1500 or so. Would you guys suggest any changes in my setup? I will be keeping this car for a long time, i figure i'll buy a new car in a near future and mod the hell out of my bishi, its nothing but a show car waiting to happen. Input people? Am i way off here?

you are gonna want to go a little lower on compression, because tuning boost on 10.5:1 will be a bitch. You can do it, you just wont be running very high boost. but good luck :thumbsup

I would not run the 10.5 with turbo. You will strain the engine pretty badly. If you did you would have to run really low boost. I would recommend running 8.8:1 pistons. This will allow you to run higher boost. Make sure you upgrade the head gasket, and head studs as well.

I'd run low boost with that set up, a 16g, intercooler with 8 psi, and pull some timing.

Pfft.
It can be done. it's not going to "strain" anything anymore than you're doing already. Sure, you won't be able to run as much boost on pump as a lower compression setup, but you'll make more power on 8psi than they will at 12. Throw some C16 in it and run 18, and you'll make more power than they would at 24. High compression is a *GOOD* thing.
